The CL Yachts CLB65 pairs traditional good looks and a timeless profile with impeccable planning for short-handed cruising by owner-operators. It’s also the first CL Yachts model with an aft galley, a design choice that underlines a clear objective: entertaining.

Seaworthy touches can be found in spots such as the cockpit, where a joystick control station is concealed in each cabin side to make docking painless, and where husky warping winches are on each stern quarter to take the muscle out of line handling. But at the same time, the entire after bulkhead of the yacht’s house is glass that folds up or hinges to the side, opening the salon for alfresco living. With the galley aft, the chef can pass food to the casual dining settee to starboard or across the cockpit bar to the outdoor table. Inside, a U-shaped couch is forward with a cleverly designed coffee table that morphs into a laptop desk.

The decor is also designed to look timeless and, for owner-operators, to be easily maintained. Off-white bulkheads are accented by exquisite joinerwork. The wraparound galley has Corian counters, a Bosch four-burner cooktop, a Vitrifrigo stand-up fridge, two under-counter drawer fridges and a convection oven.  Stowage reaches into the farthest corners, and dishware is secured in a dedicated pull-out drawer. A wine chiller is accessible from the salon or cockpit.

CL Yachts CLB65
Low-back salon sofas mean great views for guests. The aft-galley setup is a first for CL Yachts. Courtesy Lightseed Studio

At the helm, there’s a double-wide Stidd seat abaft dual 17-inch Garmin multifunction displays. The list of standard electronics spans three pages and includes Fantom 54 radar and VHF radios. Four cameras (aft, on the side decks and in the engine room) share the monitors, and the entire package is duplicated on the flybridge. Other controls include the Volvo Penta IPS joysticks, a CZone electrical panel and Volvo Penta active Interceptor trim tabs. Next to the skipper, a pantograph watertight door opens to the side deck.

The side decks are comfortably wide at 20 inches with high coamings capped by 40-inch-high rails for safety. They lead to a sitting area on the foredeck with a couch and chaises, ideal for a private moment at anchor or when Med-moored. A stout Maxwell windlass handles the 200 feet of chain rode.

Another interesting detail is that the CLB65 is built on a shortened version of the CLB72 hull, so this yacht has the nearly 20-foot beam of the longer yacht. Designed by Howard Apollonio, this hull design is noted for its comfortable seakeeping ability. Construction is of exceptional quality, with multiaxial E-glass using blister-preventing vinylester resin. Carbon fiber is used in load-bearing areas, and the CLB65 is built to the RINA class that starts with the original drawings and continues with regular inspections during construction.

CL Yachts CLB65
Natural light, white bulkheads, neutral tones and light-wood soles create a sense of airiness in the staterooms. Courtesy Lightseed Studio

When it comes to accommodations, the CLB65 takes full advantage of that wide beam. The full-beam owner’s stateroom is precisely amidships for minimum motion at sea. Its king-size berth is offset to allow for two full-height closets, bureaus and a vanity. The master’s head (with a one-piece ceramic sole) has Euro-style his-and-hers sinks with Grohe faucets, while the stall shower has a wall spray and a rain shower. Hidden outside in the companionway is a full-size GE washer-and-dryer setup.

The forepeak VIP has an island queen-size berth, a cedar-lined closet, hidden lighting and a vanity. Its en suite head also has the ceramic sole and stall shower. Off the center corridor is the en suite guest stateroom, with twin berths that convert to a double. On the CLB65 that I got aboard, a utility room abaft the engine room was optioned to become an en suite crew cabin.

Up top, the flybridge is accessed via gentle stairs. There are two wraparound seating areas, along with a dining table, a fridge, an ice maker, a grill and a sink. Much of this area is shaded by the fiberglass hardtop that is integral to the radar arch.

CL Yachts CLB65
Twin 800 hp Volvo Penta IPS1050 diesels give the CLB65 a 21-knot cruise speed and 24.4-knot top-end speed. Courtesy Lightseed Studio

The engine room showcases CL Yachts’ commercial shipbuilding experience with rails around the engines for safe underway checks, space to access all systems, and meticulously labeled wiring and plumbing that is secured to high standards. A shiplike electrical panel fills the forward bulkhead, and oil and water filters are at knee level. The 27 kW Onan genset sits on a raised platform, and a Delta-T system reduces moisture. The CLB65 I was aboard also had the optional Seakeeper gyro, CMC at-rest stabilizer, Blue Water watermaker and Besenzoni passerelle.

Power for the CLB65 is a pair of 800 hp Volvo Penta IPS1050 diesels, which provided fingertip precision for maneuvering and docking, and a surprising turn of speed. This yacht hit 24.4 knots and settled into a 21-knot cruise at a cost of about 50 gallons per hour, a testament to Apollonio’s slippery hull form when moving 40-plus tons of luxurious fitments.

With beautiful lines, impeccable detailing, a robust build and solid performance, the CL Yachts CLB65 is worth a look for owner-operators who want timeless styling, cruising adventures, and at-sea entertaining with friends and family.

Volvo Penta Interceptor System

Conventional trim tabs raise or lower a yacht’s bow when running, or correct heel from wind or weight. Volvo Penta Interceptors, part of the company’s Electronic Vessel Control setup, have an auto mode to adjust the boat to its most favorable running angle. But unlike hinged trim tabs, Interceptors drop vertically to create the same effect. They’re built with corrosion-free materials, so they do not require protective anodes.

What Is RINA Class?

RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) is an international classification society for boatbuilding safety in design, construction and maintenance. RINA’s team starts by approving yacht-design drawings, and then monitors vessel construction and provides periodic surveys to maintain a yacht’s RINA status.

Taking in the profile of the CL Yachts CLX96 flagship at Lauderdale Marine Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, my eyes were overloaded with a sense of new—and yet something familiar.

The familiar starts at the near-plumb and proud bow that has a sea-splitting entry, transitioning lower—gently and linearly—before resolving at the cockpit. This design also allows the yacht to carry a good bit of its 24-foot beam forward, creating more interior space without sacrificing seakindliness. Enhancing the yacht’s clean lines, which were penned by Milan-based designer Jozeph Forakis, is a two-tone white-and-gray hull color that visually slims the profile. Cut-down bulwarks amidships enable sole-to-ceiling ocean views from the salon’s formal dining space. And that’s saying something in a salon that has about 6-foot-11-inch headroom. In fact, the CLX96’s entire superstructure is nearly 360 degrees of glass.

The superstructure and sky lounge are designed in a double-reverse raked fashion. Think of a trapezoid that is upside down. The design is as practical as it is eye-catching. When combined with the yacht’s rugged-looking exterior, there is a subtle homage to the Hong Kong builder’s long history of also constructing bluewater-capable commercial craft. But rest assured, this is a luxury yacht. The practical impact of the double-reverse raked superstructure and sky lounge is a proportional appearance while stretching the yacht’s lines. It also keeps the hot sun out of the interior spaces, thereby reducing stress on the air-conditioning system. This setup also allowed CL Yachts to push the interior volume to the windows forward, optimizing every inch of real estate.

The effect is immediately felt when transiting from the cockpit via the stainless-steel sliding doors into the salon. The doors open, revealing a clear view straight to the foredeck lounge about 80 feet away. The open layout is impressive, helped in part by some innovative structural engineering by Al Horsmon and his company, Horsmon and Associates Marine Consulting. To achieve Forakis’ open-concept design, there are a series of four upside-down-U-shaped carbon-fiber forms that blend into the interior design. These forms help absorb and distribute the stresses of operating on the water and keep the main deck open. There are forms found on the other decks too.

Additional support comes in the form of triangle-shaped outside supports at the after sections of the superstructure. These help with stresses placed fore and aft. As Forakis points out, a triangle is the strongest shape to use in this application. Interestingly, when accessing the flybridge, the teak steps, like the windows, are also reversed, facing aft, as opposed to a traditional forward-facing placement. The design follows the shape of the house, creating continuity from a visual perspective, but it also eases the walk up when the boat is running and the bow is raised.

Supporting the interior reinforcement, the CLX96’s hull is built tough with an infused, cored-fiberglass hull, decks, superstructure, bulkheads and cabin soles. CL Yachts uses biaxial and multiaxial E-glass, and carbon fiber in strategic areas, as well as vinylester resin. The 96-footer displaces about 191,000 pounds.

With the yacht’s stout build, I was curious to see if its twin 1,900 hp Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesels would deliver on the performance side. Exiting Port Everglades Inlet, the seas were 2- to 3-footers—not much of a challenge for this vessel, especially when armed with Sleipner Vector Fin stabilizers and a Quick gyrostabilizer, but the conditions did enable our crew of 13 to see the speedy side of the CLX96. At an easy 2,000 rpm cruise at just 68 percent engine load, the CLX96 averaged 19.6 knots while the motors burned about 138 gph. Considering a 10 percent reserve on the yacht’s 4,100-gallon fuel capacity, range at cruise is about 524 nautical miles. At 2,350 rpm and wide-open throttle, the yacht tops out right around 25 knots at a cost of 201 gph, which reduces range to 458 nm. Dial the speed back to 1,500 rpm and 14.4 knots, and fuel burn drops precipitously to 60 gph while range climbs to 886 nm. The CLX96’s teardrop-shaped running surface comes from naval architect Earl Arfaro, who used computational fluid dynamics to help create it. He describes the hull form as having “optimal hydrodynamic properties combined with optimal offshore performance.”

At all speeds, the CLX96 was whisper-quiet at the helm. Everyone could converse in normal tones at about the average 65 dB level. The construction doesn’t just lend itself to a solid ride; it provides a quiet one too.

CL Yachts CLX96

For all its distinctive exterior style and linebacker-like performance, the CLX96 has an interior that is total luxury. From the salon’s bleached teak-and-holly sole to the Portofino interior option, with satin-finish walnut on everything from the bulkheads to the cabinetry, the feel is modern, upscale and inviting. Owners can also choose the Amalfi interior, which is hickory wood.

The invitation is enhanced by indirect lighting that outlines those carbon-fiber forms on the main deck. There is an L-shaped settee to port that provides the best view of the flip-down 65-inch TV. Forward of the salon is the formal dining space for eight to 10 guests, with the galley counter forward handling overflow with a few stools at the countertop. There is also an island for extra food-prep space, and the galley is outfitted with a microwave, oven, electric cooktop and dishwasher from Bosch. The 42-inch standing fridge and freezer and 24-inch freezer drawer are from Sub-Zero. A trash compactor and garbage disposal round out the galley amenities. There are marble countertops and a backsplash, as well as a Fenix NTM-covered galley island and cabinets. Fenix NTM is a nanotech material that can be repaired with a damp towel and a hot iron if it gets scratched or damaged.

One of my favorite spots is forward of the galley: the Champagne lounge. Aft-facing seating is centered around a narrow table with a U-line Champagne chiller in the middle. Underneath are pull-out drawers for the flutes. The cozy space is further defined by a teak headliner. Forakis managed to keep the floor plan open but give each area its own identity through subtleties like the headliner or lighting. There’s the conversation space, formal eating area, family breakfast nook and after-dinner cocktail space.

From the Champagne lounge, a staircase leads to a four-stateroom accommodations layout, including the full-beam master forward with a king berth and skylight with electric blinds for privacy. Light also comes into the space via hullside windows, which offer ocean views at the settee and vanity to starboard, and from what Forakis calls the “whiskey chair” to port. There is also a walk-in closet, a 65-inch recessed TV and cabinet stowage in every available dead space. There are his-and-hers heads with smart glass that turns opaque by flipping a switch. In the middle is a stall shower, also with smart glass and a teak bench. The shower has sintered stone bulkheads and sole. The head also has Corian countertops. There is a full-beam VIP stateroom amidships, which could double as a second master. It’s set up with a queen berth, flanked by hullside windows, a vanity, a settee, a virtual skylight providing a sky scene over the berth, a recessed 55-inch TV and an en suite head. Between the master and VIP are two mirrored guest staterooms, both en suite and with twin berths that can slide together for couples. There is a GE washer and dryer in the passageway between the master and guest staterooms. There are two crew cabins for up to four people and a crew mess adjacent to the engine room. There is another washer and dryer there as well.

The dream for the CLX96 started during a conversation between Forakis and the shipyard about six years ago, and the ultimate goal was to create a yacht that hasn’t been seen before—one that is, at its core, luxurious but also has the ease of livability, is multipurpose, and is backed by a build made to cross open water. After my day at sea aboard the CL Yachts CLX96, I would say it’s a dream realized.

The Fun Zone

The CLX96’s 1,763-pound-capacity Z-lift platform is standard. With the push of a button, it lifts and extends out, creating a stairway to the sea. Use it as a water-toy launching platform, or use it to increase the beach club’s overall square footage for sea-level lounging on the hook. Teak deck inserts are stowed in the engine room and fill in the gaps when the platform is in the open position.

Piazza del Sole

The foredeck lounge on the CLX96 is arranged for alfresco fun. There are flanking lounges with triangle-shaped drop-down tables. The seating can be raised to create backrests for lunch. Add filler cushions to increase sunbathing space, or add carbon-fiber poles and sunshades. Abaft is a curved bench seat and table in front of the house for several more guests. An owner could easily have a dozen people up there for sundowners on the hook. And when the sun sets, pop up the courtesy lights to keep the evening going.

Inside Moves

During our 40-or-so-minute trip down Fort Lauderdale’s New River to open water, the CLX96 showed itself to be quite maneuverable. In addition to the five-blade propellers and SeaStar electrohydraulic power steering, the yacht is equipped with a standard Side-Power hydraulic bow thruster and optional hydraulic stern thruster.

The Sky Life

All the CLX96’s alfresco zones can be opened, expanded and the like, and the sky lounge follows suit. On the practical side, there is the Garmin-equipped helm area on centerline, with three 22-inch multifunction displays, Mathers single-lever controls, twin Stidd helm seats and more. Abaft the helm is a settee to port, 50-inch pop-up TV, fridge and backlit bottle stowage. The sky lounge’s side windows lower for cross breezes, and the aft window connects guests inside to the aft deck for an indoor-outdoor vibe. The aft deck has three bar stools, a settee to port, L-shaped dining with a teak table to starboard, a wet bar, a grill and chaise lounges.

Behind the Design

The practical impact of the double-reverse raked superstructure is a proportional  appearance while stretching the yacht’s lines. It also keeps the hot sun out of the interior spaces, thereby reducing stress on the air-conditioning system.

Solid Footing

When it comes to dropping the hook, the CLX96 is set up for staying tight. The foredeck has two Maxwell VWC 4000 hydraulic windlasses paired to two 176-pound, high-holding-power anchors secured with 250 feet of half-inch high-test galvanized chain.

Launched at FLIBS 2022, the CL Yachts CLX96 is the introduction to a new line of vessels from the builder. Yachting got on board to learn more about this new sea activity vessel.

About CL Yachts:

“Innovation sits at the core of everything we do at CL Yachts. It is a character trait passed down from our parent company, who has led with a progressive heart throughout a history that spans over a century. Along with pioneering fiberglass and vacuum-bagged construction techniques, achievements include crafting the world’s first all-foam cored production motor yacht, and the world’s largest fiberglass motorboat with a Lloyd’s Register classification. It was only natural that CL Yachts was born with the same desire to push the boundaries, never merely asking “why?”, and instead asking “why not?””

CL Yachts says the CLX96—the brand’s first Sea Activity Vessel, or SAV—is en route across the Pacific Ocean, bound for the Panama Canal and then Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Plans are for a group of potential owners to do sea trials in Florida this summer before the CLX96 makes its official debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in the fall.

Lines on the CLX96 are by Italy-based designer Jozeph Forakis, with some design cues taken from workboats. There’s a two-level deckhouse and an inverted windshield. The latter has two functions: to clear rough water faster than traditionally raked windshield and to help keep the yacht’s interior cool by reducing any greenhouse effect from overhanging glass.

According to CL Yachts, the new model can achieve 24 to 25 knots of speed at full load.

It’s already an award-winning design: The CLX96 has won a Good Design Award 2020, a Bronze A’ Design Award 2021 and an International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2021.

The first Sea Activity Vessel, or SAV, from CL Yachts has completed its technical launch.

CL Yachts says there was a delay in splashing the 96-foot CLX96 SAV because of the Covid-19 pandemic, following design accolades that came in 2020 and 2021 from Good Design and the international Yacht & Aviation Awards.

Styling on the CLX96 SAV is what the builder calls “workboat chic,” with a two-level deckhouse and reverse-sheer windshields. The windshield angle is intended to wash away water at sea, preserve sightlines and reduce the greenhouse effect in the interior.

Milan-based designer Jozeph Forakis drew the profile for the CLX96 SAV, taking inspiration from the New York City loft where he was born.

The power package: CL Yachts says the twin Caterpillar C32 engines should provide a cruising speed of 22 knots and a top speed of 27 knots at half load.

Powered with twin 1,600 hp Caterpillar C32 Acert diesels, the CLB88 hit 25 knots at top hop. Courtesy CL Yachts

“Looks like you’re going to thread a needle,” I remarked to our captain as he maneuvered the CL Yachts CLB88 out of a tight starboard-to space at Lauderdale Marine Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The captain used the yacht’s bow and stern thrusters and popped the standard twin 1,600 hp Caterpillar C32 Acert diesels in and out of gear to ease the bow over to port. (Twin 1,900 hp C32s are available.) Clearing the stern, and squared away forward, we faced a trio of mega-yachts tied up to port and yachts lined up from bow to stern along the face dock to starboard. The scene created a narrow and indirect route out.

Inching the CLB88 along the tight corridor, sometimes with mere feet to spare on each side, and having to bump the yacht over carefully to port or starboard, our crew eventually made it to a wider portion of the channel. The collective pucker factor abated.

It was some deft maneuvering on a yacht measuring almost 89 feet in length and with a beam of 22 feet, 6 inches.

Panu Virtanen, vice president of CL Yachts, says the company’s goal with the CLB88 was to re-imagine traditional motoryacht design in ways that go beyond handling. “We conceived the interior to bring in the outside,” he says. “Teak flooring throughout continues from the aft deck, and the teak overhead in the salon combines with the large windows for maximum use of ambient light. Inside and out, you are part of the surroundings.”

CL Yachts CLB88 Interior
Teak in the overhead and a teak-and-holly sole warm up the CLB88’s salon. Courtesy CL Yachts

The exterior and interior are by Italy-based designer Jozeph Forakis. The CLB88 is a well-proportioned, low-profile yacht with smart features. For instance, boarding is made safer and easier via a hydraulically operated, 1,500-pound-capacity swim platform. Entry to the crew and captain’s quarters, and engine room, is also near here. Stairs flanking the transom provide access to the cockpit.

The cockpit has a teak sole, alfresco dining with transom seating, and shade from overhead. Access to the bridge deck is to starboard, and a peek forward to either port or starboard reveals walkable side decks. They have bulwarks and high railings that should make transit safe to and from the bow seating and sun pad.

An electrically operated glass door to the salon reveals an interior with a teak-and-holly sole, as well as a teak overhead with recessed lighting. A day head is near the door, and directly to port is an L-shaped settee across from two chairs for cocktails and conversation. The settee faces an LCD TV that flips down from the ceiling. Forward and to starboard is a wet bar with a U-Line wine chiller, ice maker and refrigerator. The dining table expands with room for eight to 10 guests, and the superstructure’s side windows provide ocean views during meals. A “floating” stairway forward and to starboard leads to the flybridge.

Forward of the salon are the galley and dinette with seating for four. The lower helm station is to starboard and is outfitted with a pair of Garmin touchscreens, cameras, an autopilot, SiriusXM weather and a VHF radio.

CL Yachts CLB88 Interior
The salon dining table expands to accommodate 10 guests. Note the “floating” stairway. Courtesy CL Yachts

Stairs from here lead to the forepeak and portside double-berth en suite guest staterooms. The amidships master and VIP staterooms, accessed from the salon, also have en suite heads. In all the accommodations, there is stowage to handle clothes for an extended cruise.

Up on the bridge deck, there’s a hardtop overhead, a centerline helm, a grill, L-shaped dining to port, and a bar to starboard with a refrigerator, ice maker and five stools. It’s an ideal spot for sundowners with friends.

The yacht is built to RINA classification with resin infusion in a combination of fiberglass and carbon fiber, reducing weight and maintaining strength. Fuel and water tanks are fiberglass and integral to the hull, creating a double-hull bottom. In total, the CLB88 has a 175,000-pound displacement. The yacht is finished with Alexseal paint.

“We follow through with all [American Boat and Yacht Council] standards and do as much purchasing such as wiring, materials, fabrics, hoses, pumps and even hose clamps in the US as possible so that all parts are easily accessible,” Virtanen says.

CL Yachts CLB88
The CLB88 has a 1,500-pound-capacity hydraulic platform for launching and retrieving the tender. Courtesy CL Yachts

There is no wood in any part of the CLB88′s construction, except what’s used for the teak decking and interior decor. Craftsmanship is meticulous, with seamless curves and first-rate fit-and-finish. “If you lift up the soles, bulkheads and decorative panels, for example, you will not find any plywood there,” Virtanen says. “It’s all fiberglass.”

Given its design, size and class, the CL Yachts CLB88 is worth a look from owners ready to move to the crewed-yacht experience, or wishing to enter the charter market. The yacht is agile and stylish, with 25-knot performance and a stout build for bluewater cruising.

The CL Yachts CLB88 is the first from-scratch motoryacht in a new series for the builder.

Boarding the CLB88 is made safe and easy via the hydraulically operated, 1,500-pound capacity swim platform—entry to the crew and captain’s quarters and engine room is also found here. Stairs flanking the transom provide access to the teak cockpit. The yacht’s flybridge overhang provides protection from the sun and elements for alfresco dining at a teak table with a benchseat along the transom. There’s room for additional loose chairs too.

Entering the salon through the double-glass door, guests are greeted by teak overhead, a teak- and-holly sole and plentiful seating. There is a day head to port. A dining table is forward and to port with a designer-inspired table, which expands to seat up to 8 guests for form dinners. A key interior design feature is an unobstructed floor plan from the cockpit door to the country kitchen. There is also nearly 360 degrees of glass providing ocean views in all directions.

The CLB88′s interior is floated and interior elements are not directly tied into the yacht’s support structure, resulting in reduced vibration and a relatively quiet ride, a feature that is really appreciated during longer passages.

An automatic, electrically-operated sensor door forward provides access to the galley to port with a twin-sink island and a dinette with seating for five guests. To starboard, is the lower helm that is outfitted with a pair of Garmin touchscreens, cameras, autopilot, Sirius XM weather system and VHF radio. Cabinets, drawers and other stowage spaces are plentiful. In addition, there is access to the two forward staterooms via a wide staircase.

Offering room for the growing cruising family, the CLB88 has a four-stateroom, four-head layout with an amidships master stateroom and VIP stateroom taking full advantage of the yacht’s 26-foot-6-inch beam. Spacious accommodations are also found in the forepeak stateroom with a queen berth and the double-berth stateroom to starboard. All staterooms have en suite heads and showers. For extended cruises, the yacht has numerous stowage areas in both closets and built-ins.

The wide-open spaces on the bridge deck-accessed from the aft deck or a ‘floating stairway” in the salon-has a centerline helm, abundant seating, full bar and grill, and it begs for outdoor adventures while underway or at an anchorage.

Built to exacting specifications, CL Yachts uses only the latest advances in boat construction, such as resin-infused fiberglass and carbon fiber, to help reduce weight and maintain strength. In addition, all fuel and water tanks are fiberglass and integral to the hull. In total, the CLB88 has a 175,000-pound displacement.

The motoryacht is powered with a pair of 1,600 hp Caterpillar C32 Acert engines, providing for an easy 20-knot cruise and up to 25-plus knots at wide-open-throttle in proper sea conditions. Two 53 kW Kohler gensets are housed in a wide open, well lit, engine room, providing more than enough power onboard to run all systems while cruising.

The CLB88 is also nimble around the dock and in close-quarters thanks to bow and stern thrusters. And with wide exterior walkways combining with high bulwarks, transiting fore and aft is safe.

Whether combining private ownership with the possibility of charter opportunities or using the CL Yachts CLB88 for your own at-sea adventure, this motoryacht offers a safe, comfortable and luxurious cruising experience.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for has officially arrived. CL Yachts is ready to reveal their latest innovation, the CLX96, to the world – and we got the first look. Yachting Magazine’s Patrick Sciacca sat down with CL Yachts’ Hans Lo and Jozeph Forakis, designer of the CLX96 and owner of Jozeph Forakis Design, for an exclusive walk-through of some of the most compelling aspects of this new creation. The CLX96 will officially debut at FLIBS 2021.

Inspired by life’s great adventure, a love for exploration, and a passion for pushing luxury into uncharted waters, CLX96 is the purest expression of CL Yachts’ innovation to date. Look at the CL Yachts CLB88 in profile, and you’ll notice a combination of key design elements.

There’s the fine entry and high freeboard forward, and the form transitions into a straight sheerline gently descending in height as it stretches aft, resolving at the cockpit. The subtle drop helps create a relatively aggressive profile. It’s a look that the CLB88′s raked windows forward enhance, and that the lean-forward look of the hardtop and flybridge supports. The yacht’s amalgam of shapes creates a singular, salty aesthetic.

Beneath the seafaring look is function. The yacht has a resin-infused build in a combination of fiberglass and carbon fiber, reducing weight and maintaining strength. The hull form is reinforced by a 3,000-gallon integral fuel tank, essentially creating a double-hull bottom.

The CLB88′s interior is “floated” too, meaning interior elements are not directly tied into the yacht’s support structure, resulting in reduced vibration and what should be a quiet ride.

This motoryacht’s ride could be spirited as well. Twin 1,600 hp Caterpillar C32 Acerts reportedly push it to a 25-knot top hop.

The main deck has a constant connection to the sea with nearly 360 degrees of glass. Ambient light adds to the sense of interior volume. The salon has an L shaped settee to port with two loose chairs across, and there is formal dining for six guests forward of the sitting area. Courtesy CL Yachts

This yacht has four staterooms, plus two crew cabins. There are five guest heads and one crew head. The master stateroom is full-beam amidships.

A lower helm and country kitchen are forward on the main deck, with the dinette across from the helm. The CLB88′s flybridge is set up for alfresco meals with L-shaped seating and a table to port, as well as a bar with five stools to starboard. Forward on centerline is the helm station, and to port is companion seating. Far aft is room for chaise-style chairs and a davit.

The CLB88 is for yachtsmen ready to transition to a crewed vessel. It has room for a cruising family, offers solid performance, has an open floor plan, and is a bluewater build with a high level of customization.
