The Epitome of a Modern Classic

The flagship of the Legend range, Ocean Alexander’s 37L is today’s archetypal luxury yacht.

The psychology behind the onboard lifestyle of a yacht’s owner and guests is an oft-studied subject. Every shipyard knows that success depends on the functionality, style and performance of its build. With its Legend series, Ocean Alexander and designer Evan K. Marshall have created yachts that perfectly encapsulate the triad of owner and guest preference: intimate entertaining, privacy and, of course, luxury. The flagship and largest of this series—the 37L—first debuted at the 2021 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Hull No. 3 will appear at the 2023 Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show in February.

Exuding a modern yet classic aesthetic with attractive lines and a seaworthy Carolina flare, the Legend range is distinguished from other OA series first and foremost by its more-traditional styling, both in exterior profile and interior arrangement. Subtle consistencies in the fashion boards and window shapes stay true to the OA family lineage, but the next-generation design is apparent. This is not your grandfather’s yacht.

Large windows feature prominently aboard the trilevel 37L, bringing a contemporary appeal to the profile while flooding the interior with natural light that enhances the feeling of spaciousness within. The five-stateroom yacht graciously accommodates up to 10 guests within its interior, while five distinct exterior spaces offer multiple opportunities to enjoy life on the water.

A main-deck master stateroom is a frequent owner request, and the 37L offers a flexible arrangement in either a split-level or a single-level layout. Hull No. 3 features a split-level layout, with a large en suite with a tub, a shower, and dual vanities forward and down several steps in the bow. A night head is conveniently situated in the cleverly designed master lounge, just aft of the king-size bed that enjoys near-270-degree views from the vertical wraparound windows.

The large windows continue aft, following the wraparound side decks from the foredeck lounging area to the spacious aft deck, where a bar and a seating area with twin dinettes provide a comfortable and versatile environment for dining or relaxation. A spacious and air-conditioned beach club with a television and a wet bar is positioned in the stern, with comfortable proximity to the swim platform for enjoying the waterborne frivolity. Access to the crew quarters for five (or six with a couple) is conveniently positioned through multiple entries, including the beach club or the portside exterior deck.

Another traditional mark of the Legend series is the choice of materials offered for the interior. Through the electric sliding-glass doors from the aft deck, the main salon is highlighted by comfortable Paltrona Frau furniture and a rich selection of woods that evoke a nautical tone. Clients can choose from a selection of interior finishes offered by the Novus Dusk or Novus Mist decor packages; the 37L on display at the Miami yacht show will feature the Novus Dusk decor.

While the 37L offers multiple alfresco dining opportunities, the formal interior dining space will undoubtedly see plenty of use, thanks in part to the portside electric sliding door that accesses a fold-down balcony off this area. This space invites sunset cocktails, after-dinner drinks or the simple touch of a sea breeze to enjoy while dining at the large, 10-seat table.

In a word, the galley aboard the 37L is impressive. A true commercial-grade space, the fully equipped galley features plentiful storage with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, as well as a dedicated portside entry door for privacy, crew service and ease of provisioning.

Opposite the galley, stairs lead both down to the lower-deck accommodations and up to the bridge deck and wheelhouse one level above. Off the lower-deck foyer area housing an under-counter fridge/ice maker, four spacious en suite staterooms comprise two mirrored queen-size staterooms amidships and mirrored convertible twin staterooms forward. A private laundry facility with a commercial-grade washer and dryer, a freezer and a sink are situated farthest forward in the bow area—another thoughtful touch to facilitate unobtrusive crew service.

On the bridge deck, the wheelhouse is yet another impressive space, highlighted by triple electric leather-clad helm chairs and three 32-inch Garmin Black Box touchscreens for ease of charting and monitoring. Aft, the sky lounge features a day head, a refrigerator/ice maker, a games table and a lounging area, and can be closed off from the wheelhouse for privacy, while the bridge deck farthest aft offers an enviable space for relaxation and entertainment. Here, a sun awning provides additional shade when desired. The space is equipped with a full walk-behind bar with four bar stools, a 50-inch television, a U-shaped settee with a dinette, and plenty of open space aft for configuring loose furnishings to suit the entertainment. The opportunities for entertainment continue on the uppermost sky deck, which is fitted out with a five-person Jacuzzi, a U-shaped seating area with a dinette, and a bar-and-grill area with a 43-inch television.
