Hargrave Custom Yachts has listed the 114-foot Hargrave Brandi Wine for sale on the brokerage market. The raised pilothouse yacht’s asking price is $4.4 million.

Included in that price is about $300,000 worth of upgrades that were done aboard Brandi Wine in September and October 2023. They included the installation of new electronics and audiovisual systems, as well as new antifouling and zincs to protect the underwater equipment.

The team at Hargrave notes that these updates and upgrades are in addition to the original construction of Brandi Wine, which “exceeded industry standards” when the semi-displacement yacht was designed and built back in 2009. The original spec called for long-range cruising capability, Naiad zero-speed stabilizers, extra stowage, high ceilings, a high-visibility bridge, extra soundproofing, a convertible hardtop and an oversized hardtop.

“ Brandi Wine is a great example of a fully customized Hargrave yacht,” the company says, adding that Brandi Wine also underwent a hydraulics system rebuild in 2022. Combined, according to Hargrave, the 2022 and 2023 refits totaled more than $400,000.

And that was on top of yet another refit that was completed in 2021. The yacht has had all LED lighting since 2019.

At the helm, Brandi Wine now has electronics equipment from Garmin and Furuno, including a GPSMap 8700 and a NavNet TZtouch. Similar equipment is up at the flybridge helm, with sunlight-readable displays. Yet another Garmin GPSMap display is installed in the captain’s cabin for additional monitoring.

The yacht runs with three generators: two 65-kilowatt Northern Lights, and one 17-kilowatt Phasor for nighttime or emergency use. Fuel capacity is 7,000 gallons. The power plants are twin 1,400-horsepower Caterpillar 3412E diesels, which Hargrave’s team says provide a cruising speed of 15 knots and a top hop of 17 knots.

Accommodations are for eight guests in four en suite staterooms, including a full-beam master stateroom with a 42-inch, 4K Samsung television. Both the master and one of the guest staterooms have king-size berths. The remaining two guest staterooms have queen and twin berths. Bose Soundbars are in all the owner and guest staterooms.

There also are three crew cabins, which Hargrave says can accommodate six crew. The galley is equipped with appliances made by leading brands such as Sub-Zero, GE and Fisher & Paykal.

Dark Horse, a 2007 Hargrave Custom Yachts 78 Open Bridge, is currently listed with Luke Brown Yachts with an asking price of $1.89 million. The motoryacht has a four-stateroom, four-head layout with accommodations to sleep eight and a crew quarters aft.

Steps flanking the transom lead up to the entertainment-centric teak cockpit, which has a bench seat along the transom with a high-gloss teak table as well as loose chairs, all set under the flybridge overhang, providing protected alfresco dining. There are stairs to port that lead to the flybridge.

Stepping into the salon, furniture placement defines the social spaces. There’s a chair and two settees to port (one outboard, one at the galley bulkhead facing aft). Windows surrounding the salon bring in light that plays off the rich wood finishes and light-tone furnishings creating a sense of warmth as well as volume.

Forward of the salon is the open galley and its U-shaped countertop. For cooking at-sea aficionados, the galley is equipped Fisher & Paykel dishwasher, a Sharp range with a glass cooktop, convection oven and microwave, four drawer refrigerators, four drawer freezers and a U-Line wine refrigerator. Countertops are grainte.

Forward of the galley is the 78 open Bridge’s lower helm station, which is outfitted with a Stidd helm chair. A dinette is to port , creating a great spot to have a quick bite or chat with the captain while underway.

When it comes to outside spaces, Dark Horse’s flybridge has a four-sided EZ2CY enclosure enabling the front two-thirds of the yachts’ open flybridge to be an enclosed all-weather, climate-controlled area. An L-shaped sofa, fixed table and loose chairs to starboard create an alfresco dining space for eight to 10 people. A wet bar is directly to port, abaft the upper helm station.

Side decks with high rails lead to the foredeck where a three-person bench seat makes for a great spot to enjoy sundowners on the hook.

Owners and guests will find the four staterooms belowdecks, including the master stateroom, theVIP stateroom and two more guest staterooms. The full-beam master stateroom has a king berth, en suite head with a his-and-hers vanity, his-and-hers closets and a flat-screen TV. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a queen berth, flat-screen TV and en suite head. The starboard guest stateroom has criss-crossing bunk beds, a flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The fourth stateroom is to port and has twin beds, a flat-screen TV and an en suite head.

Power for this motoryacht is provided by twin 1,652 hp Caterpillar C32 diesels, giving Dark Horse a reported 24-knot top hop. Both engines have 4,500 hours on them.

The 78-footer is equipped with a TNT hydraulic swim platform that doubles as its tender stowage. The tender, a 14-foot Nautical RIB with a 2006 90 hp Yamaha 4-stroke outboard is included.

Dark Horse has two 27 kW Onan generators. The port generator has 6,216 hours and the starboard generator has 4,862 hours. The 97-foot Hargrave, Inevitable, is listed with Denison Yachting and has an asking price of $2.15 million. The 2003 build is a raised-pilothouse design that underwent a refit in 2012, and has an additional $1 million in upgrades since 2020.

The market for brokerage yachts becomes a loudly buzzing hive of activity around the autumn boat-show season, with brokers making big sales pushes before, during and after the shows. This year, the good news for brokerage buyers is that quite a few respected brands of yachts are available, with styling and performance capabilities that can suit all different types of cruising plans.

Here’s a look at a few of the yachts for sale on the brokerage market right now, along with the features that make each of the yachts worth a look.

Some of the yachts available on the brokerage market right now are from builders that place a premium on the ability to cruise faster than competing yachts of similar length. Sunseeker 95 S-Cape

The Sunseeker 95 S-Cape is a 2017 build with a top speed of 26 knots and a cruising speed of 22 knots, according to sales broker Mark Elliott at IYC. He describes the yacht as being “in immaculate, turnkey condition” at an asking price of $5,499,000.

Accommodations are for 10 guests in five staterooms, including a split-level, full-beam master on the main deck. Guest spaces for relaxation are indoors and outdoors, including outdoor dining options. Elliott says S-Cape is also charter-ready for an owner who wants to offset some ownership costs with charter income.

Mangusta 109 Dopamine

The name Dopamine says it all about this Mangusta 109, which is for sale through broker Alex G. Clarke at Denison Yachting. Top speed is 26 knots with a cruising speed of 21 knots, and with the Volvo Penta engines showing just over 1,000 original hours (the IPS is still under extended warranty on the 2021 build).

Ten guests are accommodated in five staterooms, including an on-deck master. There’s a hot tub on the bow with a lounge area, making this yacht a good option for buyers who want privacy while moored stern-to at the marina. The asking price is $13,250,000 for this yacht, which also has a sizable tender garage for a RIB and toys.

Go-Anywhere Ability

Several of the yachts on the brokerage market right now fall into the explorer category, which means they’re built with features and systems that allow them to cruise farther for longer periods of time away from the dock.

Buyers who have an interest in exploring remote destinations, as opposed to hanging out closer to shore, might want to consider these listings.

Vitters Dardanella

The 121-foot Vitters Dardanella is listed for sale with Y.CO at an asking price of about $9.47 million. The Dutch firm Vripack designed this yacht, whose reported range is 5,400 nautical miles at 9 knots.

“Dardanella isn’t like other explorer yachts on the market today,” says Y.CO sales broker Max Bulley. “The vessel was built to explore and was not converted from another life.”

Dardanella was built in 1996 and was most recently refitted in 2018. Accommodations are for 10 to 12 guests in five staterooms, including a full-beam master. The yacht is also available for charter through Y.CO at a weekly base rate of $125,000 in Costa Rica.

Lürssen Ice

The 295-foot Lürssen Ice is for sale through broker Gregory Gheraia at Blackorange Superyachts. Built in 2005, Ice has a reported range of 6,000 nautical miles for world cruising.

Asking price is about $103.5 million for Ice, which underwent what Gheraia calls “a massive refit” from 2019 to 2021. Exteriors are by Tim Heywood with interiors by Terence Disdale. Features include an elevator that services all decks, accommodations for 14 guests in seven staterooms, diesel-electric Azipod propulsion, Quantum Zero-Speed stabilizers and an aft-deck swimming pool.

Classic Styling

Buyers have quite a few options on the brokerage market today for yachts with traditional lines that never go out of style. These classically styled vessels come in various lengths with an array of features, and are often used for cruising with friends or family.

New England Boat Works Sea Bold

The 96-foot Sea Bold is a custom, fast-expedition yacht with a C. Raymond Hunt hull and construction by New England Boatworks. Delivered in 2003 and refitted in 2019-20, Sea Bold has an asking price of $2,999,000 through 26 North Yachts.

The build was done with Kevlar and carbon fiber epoxy for a lightweight, strong hull that can achieve a high-speed cruise of 22 knots. The top-end is reportedly 25 knots on Sea Bold, which retains a New England-style profile.

Features include a fully enclosed, air-conditioned pilothouse, stabilizers and a bow thruster for easier, more comfortable maneuvering on long-distance runs and in close quarters at the dock.

Hargrave Renaissance

The 116-foot Hargrave Renaissance is a 2016 build that’s offered through Hargrave Custom Yachts at an asking price of $8.75 million. This is a raised-pilothouse design with a hull by Jack Sarin and décor from Yacht Interiors by Shelley.

Accommodations are for 10 guests in five staterooms, including an on-deck master. Cruise speed is 18 knots with a top hop of 22 knots, according to the Hargrave team. The power package is Caterpillar C32 engines, with each one showing about 3,500 hours. At-rest and underway stabilizers are installed for guest comfort at sea.

The brokerage team at Hargrave Custom Yachts is looking for a buyer with the 116-foot Hargrave Raised Pilothouse Renaissance, a 2016 build with an asking price of $8,750,000.

The E Series Tri-Deck has a beam of 26 feet and a draft of 6 feet, 5 inches. Its layout includes accommodations for 10 guests in five staterooms that are big enough to incorporate king-size beds. There are quarters for seven or eight crew.

Maximum speed with the E Series Tri-Deck is 20 knots, according to Hargrave. The yacht’s range is 1,800 nautical miles.

Irresistible, for instance, has a raised pilothouse, creating an all-weather backup to the flybridge helm. The bridge is open, but it’s shaded by the fiberglass hardtop, rather than having a sky lounge on board. That’s already a lot of personalization based on the starting point of a new Jack Sarin-designed hull that tops out at 21 knots and cruises at 18 knots. In addition, this owner was planning 1,000-nautical-mile voyages, so he opted for twin 1,600 hp Caterpillar C32 Acert diesels. Irresistible reportedly has a 2,000-nautical-mile range at 10 knots. Ocean Alexander 35R

… Yachtsmen began to learn that gross tonnage was more important than feet and inches in terms of the creature comforts they wanted.

The 116-foot-9-inch Ocean Alexander 35R, whose gross tonnage is just shy of 300, is the latest model to demonstrate both points. Hull No. 1 was commissioned by a client before the shipyard could exhibit the yacht, and Hull No. 2 sold quickly during its debut at the [2021] Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida. Wally WHY200

Why WHY200? The acronym stands for Wally Hybrid Yachts, which has nothing to do with hybrid propulsion, but rather a hull designed for a range of displacement and semi-displacement cruising speeds. And the numerals don’t reference length. They reflect the approximate volume (199 gross tons), which is a lot for a yacht with a length overall of just 89 feet.

Royal Huisman Project 406

Project 406 has a length overall of 171 feet. That means the vessel will dwarf not only the most sizable 80- to 105-footers from well-known sport-fish builders—such as Viking Yachts, Bayliss Boatworks and Jim Smith Tournament Boats—but also the behemoth one-off sport-fishers such as the 144-foot Trinity Bad Company, 130-foot McMullen & Wing Mea Culpa and 129-foot Yachting Developments Lanakai. Sanlorenzo SL106 Asymmetric

The idea behind the Asymmetric line dates back several years. Sanlorenzo was wrestling with how to provide owners with more usable interior space. An initial idea was a widebody design, in which the main-deck interior spans the yacht’s full beam. Sanlorenzo quickly decided that wasn’t practical for smaller to midsize superyachts. So, [Sanlorenzo CEO Massimo] Perotti sought the input of designer Chris Bangle, with whom Sanlorenzo has been working since 2015. Bangle is known for shaking up the designs of Fiat and BMW. He came up with the notion of a widebody to one side to benefit owners along with a full side deck opposite, as well as an over-the-widebody passage from the flybridge to the bow to benefit the crew. — Diane M. Westport 112

At first, the owner thought he and his family would use the 112-foot Hannah without making any changes. Then, his wife looked at it.

“The original idea was just to change a few things inside, but you start one thing, and you say, ‘Why don’t you do the next one?’” he says. “We kept going and going and going.”

After buying the Westport yacht in early 2020, the owner brought in Destry Darr Designs for the refit. She ended up orchestrating a total overhaul, finishing the project at the end of 2020. Hargrave ‘Baba’s’

These days, many shipyards tell buyers they can design their yachts the way they see fit, but some of those same builders actually offer semicustom yachts. Some, arguably, are more production than semicustom. Clients have two, maybe three choices for general arrangements, for example, and the exterior styling is set in stone. Fewer permit moving nonstructural bulkheads. Much of the time, the systems and engine packages are nonnegotiable.

That was not the case with Baba’s.

Hargrave saw the challenge as a way to prove its mettle to would-be owners outside the United States. “This is the connection to the global market we never had,” says Michael Joyce, Hargrave’s CEO. The yard also let [Sam] Shalem—a longtime owner of a real-estate-development and -management company who is accustomed to assembling teams—play a large role in choosing craftsmen to work on the project. Rybovich 94

Throw out any preconceived notions you may have about sport-fishing yachts—even large ones. III Amigos—a 94-footer from the consortium of boatbuilder Michael Rybovich, designer Patrick Knowles and an experienced owner—is far more mega-yacht than most fishing machines.

III Amigos was born in a peculiar fashion. Its owner, who spends 50 to 60 days a year fishing, first approached Rybovich but, before signing, asked Knowles to do a dizzying collection of realistic renderings to show the final result. Stepping through the sliding doors into the Hargrave 108, I was initially struck by two thoughts. First, this boat feels huge. With a 25-foot beam, the salon seems to stretch in all directions, especially when combined with windows that disappear below the furniture and cabinetry, and the 7-foot headroom that continues throughout the yacht. Second, flappers from the Great Gatsby era must be getting dressed in the staterooms.

Yes, really, the decor made it feel like a band was tuning up for the latest Charleston dance craze on the upper deck. Maybe, just maybe, Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald were at the sky-lounge bar, sipping their favorite gin rickeys. The interior—a collaboration between Shelley DiCondina of Yacht Interiors by Shelley in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and the 108’s owner, who is on her second Hargrave—is what they call “everything art deco.” I felt as if I’d been time-warped back to the 1920s.

I’m sure Capt. Wesley Botha had to get out the polish after I left, because I couldn’t keep my fingers off the impeccable salon joinerwork, which had intricate art deco inlays of chocolate and gray bird’s-eye maple. A stemware cabinet by the dining table had a peacock-feather motif, and vintage sconces dotted the window mullions.

Just forward of the salon is a galley large enough for several chefs and servers to use the Sub-Zero, GE, JennAir and U-Line appliances at the same time. A center island with stools adds casual dining space, and a side door allows for provisions loading without impinging on guest spaces.

Across from the galley are a day head and an elevator—a feature that’s uncommon on a 108-foot yacht. It can hold two or three people and provides access to all three decks, making the yacht usable by everyone.

Forward on the main deck is the first master stateroom (there are two). It’s notable for its four walk-in closets, including two on hidden doors that swing the nightstands on each side of the bed into small recesses. Above the king-size berth is a backlit, etched-glass panel for soft light. The master head has twin gold-rimmed vessel sinks and inlaid black-and-gold vanities, all lighted by translucent onyx sconces.

Guests can take the elevator down to a foyer with a linen cabinet inlaid in veneers inspired by the Chrysler Building elevator doors from the 1930s. Just aft is the second full-beam master stateroom, also with a king-size berth and his-and-hers heads connected by a shower. A third stateroom off the foyer has convertible twin berths that can form a king, while a VIP stateroom is forward with a king berth. A laundry room is next to the elevator, with dual, full-size washers and dryers.

Up in the sky lounge, a dining table is to port with hinged sections to seat 16 (allowing egress for anyone on the banquette), while a curved bar with seating for 11 sports Lazy Susans at each end, allowing intimate foursomes to nosh without blocking the twin Sub-Zero drawers and hidden Lucite racks. A day head is aft in a corner. Overhead, there is an intricate bamboo ceiling.

The helm, on this same deck, has twin Stidd pedestal seats abaft an all-Garmin dash. Guests can tuck into an L-shaped dinette to port and enjoy the action. Five monitors handle navigation, communications, various systems and the yacht’s closed-circuit cameras.

Aft on this full-beam deck, there is room for 10 sun chaises that slide neatly into deep lockers in the bulkhead. To port is a Fire Magic grill and freezer, and there is room for a tender lifted by the Quick Lift 2,000-pound-capacity crane.

Hargraves are known for crew-happy quarters, and the 108 has three cabins for five or six crew, all with en suite heads/showers. The captain has twin berths that convert to a queen, while two cabins to port have twin bunks. The crew area is finished with the same high-gloss anigre as guest areas, and the crew have their own stacked washer and dryer.

The engine room has a thoughtful layout with electrical panels labeled, along with the various plumbing systems for water, oil and fuel. Power is a pair of 1,900 hp Caterpillar C-32 ACERT diesels, with ZF gear boxes driving 5-inch Aquamet HT shafts. Twin 50 kW Northern Lights gensets are completely accessible on diamond-plate soles (as are the main engines), and a sea chest provides easy cleaning of strainers. Other systems include Naiad stabilizers with 12-square-foot fins, Naiad bow and stern thrusters, a Sea-Fire firefighting system and Dometic SeaStar steering. There’s also a 270,000 Btu Technicold air-conditioning system from Northern Lights.

Fuel transfer is by way of a fuel counter and manifolds between the 4,000-gallon tankage and the two 1,161-gallon day tanks. Fresh water of 700 gallons is backed up by an 1,800-gallon-per-day Blue Water watermaker. On deck, smart outfitting for crew safety includes bulwarks on the side decks and a Maxwell 6000 anchor windlass. In the after corners, a pair of Maxwell VW 3500 capstans easily warp the 108 around.

Hargrave says that on sea trials, the 108 (with full fuel and water) topped out at 21 knots, with a cruising speed of 17 knots, giving this vessel an 815-nautical-mile range. Drop the speed to 10 knots, and the range reportedly jumps to 2,000-plus nm.

From the thoughtful layout, which includes an elevator, to the delightful art deco decor, this Hargrave 108 serves notice that the builder can turn an owner’s dream into a seafaring reality.

Jack Sarin Design

Hargrave uses Jack Sarin-designed hulls that are proven capable of handling the rugged conditions of the Pacific Northwest. The captain says he runs the 108 at 17 knots in 10-foot seas without concern.

How It’s Made

The Hargrave 108 is built to DNV standards, with all plumbing and electrical to American Boat & Yacht Council requirements while meeting International Maritime Organization stability rules. Divinycell foam coring is used in the fiberglass hull and superstructure to combine strength with light weight. 

Designing for Charter

Hargrave layouts are flexible. This 108 has two master staterooms, a layout that allows two couples to split the cost of a charter while still having equal accommodations. The layout is also a plus for owners with VIP friends or business partners as guests. The bridge can be configured with a fifth cabin if needed.

Hargrave Custom Yachts says the owner has dropped the asking price for the Horizon Yachts FD80 Parabolic. The new asking price is $6,495,000.

Parabolic is a 2022 build with just 105 hours on its engines, according to Hargrave’s team, which describes the vessel as “practically brand-new.” It was built with customizations that include a beach club, upgraded 1,300 hp engines, increased lifting capacity on the davit and swim platform, and a bridge-deck hot tub.

Inside, the décor is light anigre wood with walnut and ash soles. Hargrave says about $600,000 in factory extras are on board.
