Vicem Yachts in Istanbul says the Vicem 95 Empire is now headed to Australia, where it will cruise the owner’s home waters and make its public debut in May at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Empire is a highly customized, cold-molded composite build that’s part of Vicem’s Cruiser line, which includes models from 67 feet to 107 feet length overall. The trideck Empire has a flybridge as well as a shaded cockpit, along with numerous details that Vicem says make this motoryacht “the pinnacle” of its custom-build program.

The design, according to the builder, pays homage to the Vicem 107. “The owners came to speak to us with a very clear idea in mind,” Deniz Sonmez, Vicem’s head of interior designers, stated in a press release. “They had fallen in love with the classic Vicem 107 Cruiser and wanted a yacht built in her image. Our in-house design team took full account of their requests and created a layout precisely tailored to suit their wishes.”

On the foredeck, Empire has seating, dining and a separate lounging area for sunbathing. Side decks give guests a straight path to the aft deck, where there is shaded dining for 10 people along with a fridge, sink and flip-down television.

Up on the flybridge—which spans two-thirds of the yacht’s deck length—there’s a wet bar with two refrigerators, an ice maker, a sink and a freezer. Informal dining and seating for 10 people is on this deck, along with a hot tub, tender storage and a crane with a lifting capacity of 2,200 pounds.

Empire carries all the classic Vicem design features, with lots of outside space, long overhangs and shaded side decks,” hull designer Yusuf Altundasar stated in the press release. “In this, she is perfectly tuned for a luxurious lifestyle in the sun, whether that’s our home waters in the Mediterranean or the sunny shores of her owners’ native Australia.”

Vicem Yachts Empire
Empire has an open main-deck floor plan. It’s also notable for no less than nine woods with several finishes. Pozitif Studio

Inside, the layout is open plan with the galley, dining for eight, and seating on a single level. A separate service galley is belowdecks because sometimes, the owner likes to cook in the main-deck galley, surrounded by guests.

Also belowdecks are the crew and guest spaces, separated by the amidships engine room (which houses twin 1,600-horsepower MTU engines). The master stateroom spans the full beam with a king-size berth and a sofa. The VIP is in the bow, and there’s a twin-berth guest stateroom with a Pullman berth.

What kind of wood is used in Empire’s interior? Nine kinds of woods with multiple finishes, including various shades of oak.

Turkish builder Vicem Yachts proves that traditional styling is still in vogue with the 65 Classic Flybridge. The 66-footer has downeast lines, is available in fiberglass and cold-molded versions, can speed away when necessary, and has modern liveaboard comforts.

From the cockpit, the flybridge is accessed via starboard-side stairs. Up top, C-shaped seating converts to a sun pad. Two wooden dinettes are nearby for snacks, drinks or meals. Abaft this settee is an aft-facing sun pad for two. To starboard, there is a wet bar with a barbecue, a sink and a fridge/freezer to assist with alfresco entertaining. Forward of the wet bar is the two-seat upper helm station with twin 17-inch Garmin displays.

On the main deck, the teak cockpit has an L-shaped settee in the after portside corner. It’s accompanied by a wooden dinette. Forward and to port are two Besenzoni bar stools shaded by the flybridge, and connected via a frameless electric window to the salon, bar and sink inside.

The salon has an L-shaped settee to port with a coffee table. To starboard, there are cabinets and enough space for two free-standing chairs that won’t impede anyone’s ability to walk forward to the lower helm station, which has two Garmin screens and a door that provides side-deck access for easier docking.

Belowdecks, the 65 Classic Flybridge is flexible. The standard layout includes two en suite staterooms: a full-beam amidships master with a king-size berth and a forward VIP. Separating the two staterooms is a space that the builder calls a dining and lounge area, which has a head. With a sliding door, the overall space converts to a third en suite guest stateroom.

The 65 Classic Flybridge’s galley is also belowdecks, to port. It has a four-burner cooktop, cabinets, a sink and a microwave across from an L-shaped countertop.

In terms of the yacht’s exterior looks, Vicem says a light-blue hull has been the most popular paint selection, but colors are customizable.

Standard motors are 725 hp Volvo Penta D11 straight-shaft diesels. With optional Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels, the builder reports a 32-knot top-end speed and a 26-knot cruising speed. Additional features include a hydraulic swim platform and four 630-amp lithium batteries that provide more than 15 hours of operating time at anchor.

The WiLder 60, From Wider Yachts

With the WiLder 60, Italy’s Wider Yachts is introducing more than a new model. It’s launching the first design in a whole new brand of boats. The aluminum design is described as a hybrid between a chase boat and a performance cruiser, with reported 40-knot speed and a customizable platform for one-off orders. Power is a pair of twin 1,300 hp MAN V-8s. The first hull is already in build and scheduled to launch this summer, with a draft of 3 feet, 4 inches that should make the boat usable in skinny-water destinations. Hull No. 1 will have three staterooms and two heads for weekends with friends or family at anchor. For easier maneuvering in close quarters, the boat will be outfitted with Quick Marine bow and stern thrusters.

Lazzara Yachts is building this LPC 70 power catamaran for an owner who expects to cruise in the Mediterranean. There are five guest staterooms on board, including a master slightly abaft amidships that has a starboard-side fold-out balcony. The main deck has a day head, and the galley is located forward on the lower deck, with stairs leading to the main-deck dining table. Aft, there’s relaxation space for guests, along with a garage that can house an 18-foot tender and two personal watercraft. When the tender and toys are deployed, the space becomes a beach club. Lazzara is projecting a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots with twin 550 hp Volvo Penta D8s. Twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13s are optional.

Vicem’s 65 Classic Flybridge, With Down East Style

The Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge is a Down East-style boat with a reported maximum speed of 32 knots. The builder says the light-blue hull color is proving popular, though owners can choose whatever color they wish. Accommodations include an amidships master stateroom with a king-size berth and a forepeak stateroom for guests. Both are en suite, and they’re separated by a galley and dining space, giving everyone their privacy. The dining space can convert to a sleeping area for extra guests. Alfresco dining is up on the main deck. Vicem says the 65 Classic Flybridge can be built in fiberglass, but cold-molded construction is available as well. Lithium-ion batteries can power the boat for 15 hours without generator use.

Turkey’s Vicem Yachts has a new Classic-series flagship: the 82 Flybridge. Hull No. 1 was delivered in late January 2022, with the 82 as the fourth flybridge model in the Classic lineup. Construction is in cold-molded, strip-planked mahogany with epoxy.

Vicem says the 82 is designed for socializing and entertaining, making it a great trawler for cruising or overnights with friends. This intent is seen on the main deck, which has no galley. Instead, the main deck has seating for the family, friends and their friends from the cockpit to the salon. That seating is in addition to sun pads for four on the bow and forward-facing seating for two far forward at the bow.

The cockpit is set up with two face-to-face L-shaped settees. The one to port has a wooden table that’s longer than the one to starboard, which leaves room for stairs to the flybridge just forward. An additional settee for at least two is to port, just before the double sliding doors that lead into the salon. Inside is an L-shaped settee with a wooden coffee table. A Garmin-outfitted helm station is to starboard, with seating for at least five to port.

Up top, the 82’s flybridge continues the design theme. To port, there’s a two-person, aft-facing sun pad along with a U-shaped settee and two tables; to starboard are a sink, wine chiller, barbecue grill, a seat for one guest and the secondary helm station, with seating for a skipper and mate.

Belowdecks, the overnight accommodations include three staterooms, each with en suite heads. The full-beam, amidships master stateroom has hanging-locker stowage, a settee with additional stowage to port and a vanity to starboard. The king-size berth is on centerline. The starboard-side stateroom and a forepeak VIP each have queen-size berths.

The galley, also belowdecks, is to port and is centrally located amid the staterooms, further enhancing the idea of everybody on board gathering together. Appliances include a dishwasher, a full-size refrigerator, a microwave/oven, a four-burner electric cooktop—all by Bosch—and an Isotherm ice maker.

With seating and space for a dozen or so guests, the Classic 82 Flybridge still has a place for owners to seek reprieve from the crowd. Far forward on the foredeck is this seating for two with sweeping views all around. Courtesy Vicem Yachts

Power for the Classic 82 Flybridge is twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels. Vicem Yachts says the yacht’s top hop is 17.8 knots, and the cruising speed is 15 knots. At 9 knots with a 10 percent fuel reserve, range is reportedly 1,100 nautical miles.

Vicem Yachts in Turkey is preparing to release a new line of boats called the Tuna Master. The first model will be a 37-foot center console with features for cruising as well as for fishing.

The 37-foot Tuna Master also will be available as an express cruiser. On both versions, owners can choose dual or triple outboard engines from 300 to 450 horsepower.

Murat Iyriboz is the designer on the Tuna Master 37, with collaboration by DLBA Naval Architects in Virginia. The boat will be built in fiberglass with a carbon hardtop and with what Vicem calls “selective use of carbon fiber and teak trim for a true yachtlike finish.”

According to Vicem, the Tuna Master 37 will have a Seakeeper stabilizer, a range of more than 350 nautical miles, a berth and a wet head. The center-console version of the boat will have a triple helm seat.

How fast can it get to the canyons? Vicem is projecting a 45-knot top hop with an optional power package, and upwards of 40-knot speed with standard twin 300-horsepower outboards.

Vicem Yachts in Turkey says Hull No. 1 of the Vicem 50 has completed sea trials and shipped out for the United States. The yacht will be commissioned at Semmes Yachts & Brokerage in Annapolis, Maryland, prior to delivery to her owner.

According to the builder, initial sea trials showed that even with the addition of heavy aftermarket equipment including a gyrostabilizer and a dinghy lift, the Vicem 50 hit a top speed of 25.4 knots in 4-foot seas and had a range of 477 nautical miles at 8.5 knots. Power is standard twin 435-horsepower Volvo Penta IPS600s.

On versions of the Vicem 50 with lighter equipment, the builder says, expectations are for a top hop of 28 knots.

Three additional hulls are already under construction with owners awaiting them. A fifth hull is scheduled to go into production soon. Hulls 2 and 3 are likely to be delivered in early 2021, with Hulls 4 and 5 due in the first quarter of 2021.

What options can Vicem 50 owners choose? Tunnels to reduce draft; straight shafts and a conventional drivetrain; a flybridge; galley up or down; a two- or three-stateroom layout; and various cabinetry, countertops and soles.

Vicem Yachts, based on the Bosporus Strait in Istanbul, has a big mission statement: “to blend craftsmanship born from 3,000 years of finely honed woodworking skills with the most advanced technology.”

The builder’s 67 Cruiser combines these essential elements and more. With a high, sea-stopping freeboard forward, a broad-shouldered 18-foot-1-inch beam, and liberal use of mahogany wood veneers throughout, the 67 Cruiser indeed looks classic while giving yacht owners some cool modern tech.

I stepped aboard at the aft deck, and the 114,000-pound yacht barely moved. The flybridge overhang extends all the way aft, perfect for weather protection and the installation of an enclosure, if desired. Three wood and glass bulkhead panels separate the aft deck from the salon. Sliding the panels to starboard opens up the space to the salon.

Inside, I ran my fingertips over the joinery, and it felt silky. The seams were barely noticeable unless I was looking for them. From the main deck to the accommodations belowdecks, the 67 has satin-finish mahogany, as well as light leather and fabrics. That level of quality finishing is also in the crew quarters aft, which most guests will never even see.

Vicem calls the 67 a social yacht, with numerous areas to relax and entertain. Guests can sit and chat with plenty of room on the facing port and starboard sofas during cocktails before dinner. With the salon’s 6-foot-7-inch headroom and the triple 32-inch-high windows on each side, the area feels open with real estate to spare. Bookshelves, backlighting and a wooden coffee table with a leather inlay add ambience.

Forward and to port is a six-seat, booth-style dinette. This can be a great spot to work on a laptop, make a call, or play with the tablet during downtime. Vicem built a 110-volt outlet and dual USB charging ports into the bulkhead for these reasons. Similar outlets and ports are found all around the yacht, in close proximity to where guests will congregate. It’s functional and thoughtful design.

The forward dinette bench seat has a backrest that flips, so the seat goes from aft-facing to forward-facing, creating a second seat at the lower helm. That helm is to starboard and equipped for longer passages or overnight watches. Side-deck doors should make line handling easier.

Vicem put the 67′s galley amidships and to starboard, keeping the chef near the guests and well-positioned to serve meals to the aft deck or the dinette. The galley can be closed off during formal affairs. Appliances include a four-burner Miele cooktop, four Sub-Zero fridge and freezer drawers, a GE microwave, and a Bosch dishwasher.

Other social spaces include the aft deck, with transom seating and a wooden dining table for alfresco meals, and the bow, with a forward 5-foot-long bench seat and a sun pad measuring 8 feet wide by 6.5 feet long. For safe transit to and from the foredeck, the covered side decks measure 19 inches wide. Rails are as tall as 38 inches.

To me, the social place to be is up on the flybridge. There is a starboard helm including dual 17-inch Garmin multifunction displays for taking care of business, but the rest of the flybridge is laid out for fun and relaxation. There are great views from the portside double-wide companion seat. A U-shaped settee is to starboard—the cushions are around 5 inches thick—and is perfect for gathering a crowd. A pair of wooden tables makes for easy passage to the seating, and they fold out to become one large dining table. An art-deco bar to port has two mounted barstools and a fridge, sink and electric grill. Aft, owners can select a davit and tender or lounge chairs and tables (or all of the above, when the tender is deployed). At night, backlighting and 22 lights in the hardtop illuminate the area.

Vicem shows its metalwork prowess via elegant backrest stanchions, highly polished handrails contoured to the yacht’s curves, and custom-designed metal-and-glass boarding gates.

The 67 Cruiser’s handling is equally strong. Capt. Larry Czocher deftly maneuvered the yacht out of the marina between several larger yachts, using single-lever controls. He had just inches to spare on each side. The yacht’s close-quarters responsiveness was excellent, and the 67 tracked well down the New River in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Other yachts of similar size had to make several adjustments to get around the bends, but the 67 made it straight through. Czocher attributes this ability in part to the instant response from the electric steering and to the yacht’s 5-foot-9-inch draft.

Powered with twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels, the 67 Cruiser displayed no significant bow rise, keeping visibility unobstructed throughout the engines’ rpm range. Stability is helped in part by the 67′s hard-chine hull, as well as Humphree stabilizer and interceptor systems.

Other notable features on the Vicem 67 Cruiser include a main-deck day-head, 21.5 kW Onan generator, a hydraulic swim platform, bow and stern thrusters, teak decks, and a wine cooler. They are the kinds of features that make a yacht feel thoroughly modern, even if its good looks are as timeless as can be.

Vicem Yachts in Turkey has unveiled the 50 Classic, an evolution of the 46 IPS model with a scheduled premiere in the United States this fall.

The Vicem 50 Classic has a single stateroom forward with an ensuite head. An optional layout adds a guest stateroom, and a flybridge model is also available. Owners can customize countertops, cabinetry, soles and more.

“We believe the 50 Classic fits a perfect middle ground for customers between the 46- and 55-foot range in the Classic Series,” Yigit Akbarlas, production manager, stated in a press release. “The 50 will give customers 400-nautical-mile range, excellent seakeeping, and accommodations luxurious and comfortable enough for longer trips.”

What’s the top speed for the Vicem 50 classic? According to Vicem, the 50 Classic should achieve top and cruising speeds of 28 knots and 24 knots, respectively, with standard twin Volvo Penta IPS600 engines. Those speeds increase a few knots, the builder says, with optional Volvo Penta D8-IPS800s engines.
