The Lomac Turismo 9.5 is a high-end RIB with an aggressive look that will rotate heads in any harbor. The boat carries a generous bow area for lounging and dining, a center console with a windshield, a belowdecks shower and a U-shaped dinette aft that converts into a sun pad. The boat also sports a twin-shell hull and six-chambered tubes, which are a safety feature in case of punctures to any single chamber.

Whom It’s For: Performance-minded boaters who appreciate practical amenities and flexible spaces for socializing or lounging.

Picture This: The Antigua Charter Yacht Show is unfurling at Nelson’s Dockyard, but your yacht is berthed at Jolly Harbour. No matter. You load up your Lomac Turismo 9.5 and blast over. The yachts and the former Royal Navy Dockyard are hits, and the ride home is a fast, downwind affair.

The Swan Overshadow uses Nautor’s proven Shadow hull design while letting owners choose among multiple deck and belowdecks configurations. The Overshadow has inboard propulsion, and the twin-stepped, V-shaped hull is built to Category B offshore standards. With dual 440 hp Volvo Penta Aquamatic D6-DPI engines, the boat has a reported 52-knot maximum speed.

Whom It’s For: Performance-minded boaters who want to entertain, cruise and have sea legs to keep pace with the main ride.

Picture This: It’s a moody late September morning in Newport, Rhode Island. You and your partner decide to blast over to Block Island for lunch at The Landing at Champlin’s Marina, but you hedge your bets and take your Swan Overshadow. It’s raining for the final miles, but the Overshadow’s long top and high windscreen keep things comfortable.

Durable Dayboat: the Arksen 28 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/my-other-boat-arksen-28/ Thu, 23 Nov 2023 20:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=61366 The 40-knot Arksen 28 enables all-season, all-weather boating.

The Arksen 28 is an all-weather day boat that’s built to dispatch choppy seas while maintaining a dry, comfortable ride for everyone seated inside its enclosed pilothouse. The boat is built from aluminum and carries a deep-V undercarriage, chines and strakes. Topside bumpers, along with the enclosed helm and salon, encourage year-round escapades in most weather.

Whom It’s For: Adventure-minded boaters seeking the safety, strength and performance of an enclosed-pilothouse vessel, an aluminum hull and 450 horsepower.

Picture This: It’s late summer in Castine, Maine, and you and your kids—plus some of their friends—take a spin past the islands surrounding the nearby Deer Isle Thorofare, with a scoop stop at the Stonington Ice Cream Co. on the way home. The Arksen 28 has no trouble pressing its 25-knot cruising speed (with forays into the 40-knot realm) while ferrying eight guests, and its hull shape makes short work of East Penobscot Bay’s whitecapped waters. Better still, the helm’s 360-degree sightlines simplify the art of dodging the waterway’s lobster-pot armada.

Candela’s High-Flying C-8 Center Console https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/my-other-boat-candela-c8-cc/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 18:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=61274 The 30-knot Candela C-8 Center Console is all about performance, hydrofoil technology and customizable fun.

The Candela C-8 Center Console is an electric, carbon-fiber yacht that rides on two hydrofoils. The boat’s onboard sensors constantly measure wave and ride height, plus pitch and roll. This information is fed into the vessel’s Flight Controller, which trims the foils up to 6,000 times per minute, removing all guesswork from “flying” the boat. In addition, the vessel’s 55-kilowatt C-POD drive is situated below the water’s surface. Its foils retract for accessing skinny waters, and owners can choose from a menu of customization options.

Whom It’s For: Adventure-minded boaters who want speed, performance and hydrofoil tech without the noise of an internal-combustion engine.

Picture This: It’s a crisp, clear late-summer afternoon on Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay, and you feel like having an adventure. So you and a couple of buddies hop in your Candela C-8 Center Console and hydrofoil around Jamestown Island, stopping for a swim at Mackerel Cove. And you’re back in Newport in time for dinner at The Candy Store.

The Limo Tender 27 is a customizable platform that accommodates up to 12 passengers.

Wooden Boats’ Limo Tender 27 is aimed at owners who want to create a versatile side ride that’s customizable and that can stand double duty as both a tender and a can-do day cruiser. Wooden Boats relied extensively on carbon fiber to create a strong and lightweight hull form that can carry up to 12 passengers—plus two crewmembers—while still attaining speeds of up to 37 knots when powered by a 270 hp Mercury diesel engine with a stern drive.

Whom It’s For: Boating enthusiasts seeking a tender that can accommodate people, pets and provisions while also delivering get-there-quick speeds and the kind of fun that encourages stand-alone adventures.

Picture This: You’re cruising Sardinia, and the internationally famous Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is unfurling off of Porto Cervo. Your kids and their friends want to watch the massive sailboats racing, so you load up your Wooden Boats Limo Tender 27 and cruise out to the starting line. The guns fire, and, with speed to spare, you easily chase the racing sleds through the Maddalena Archipelago and home through Bomb Alley. Afterward, the boat’s fold-out swim platform proves universally popular.

The Hyfoil 22 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Its RIB-style appearance hints at its speed potential, but the boat’s true genius—a single dihedral-based main hydrofoil and twin stern foils—remains quietly concealed between its catamaran-type hulls. Light up the outboards, however, and the Hyfoil 22 quickly yields a dry, comfortable and fuel-efficient ride.

The Hyfoil 22’s three foils partially lift the hull from the water to reduce hydrodynamic resistance and bolster fuel efficiency while rewarding the driver with a well-mannered helm.

Whom It’s For: Boaters who want a fuel-efficient ride that delivers high-performance grins while still being able to negotiate skinny water or even slide up onto a beach.

Picture This: San Francisco Bay is running rough, but there’s sailboat racing to watch. You and your friends load up your Hyfoil 22 and let its wave-damping hull take the lumps, while its hydrofoils free you to chase the fast sleds.

Silent-Yachts’ Quiet Companion https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/my-other-boat-silent-tender-400/ Tue, 11 Jul 2023 18:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=60541 The Silent Tender 400 is the first tender from the electric-boat builder Silent-Yachts.

Silent-Yachts says it already has a larger version of this electric-powered tender in the works. Courtesy Silent-Yachts

Silent-Yachts, which is based in Mallorca, Spain, started building its fleet of solar-powered electric catamarans in 2016. The Silent Tender 400 is the company’s first tender, and another, larger version is already on the drawing board. The DNA is obvious: The ST400 employs lightweight carbon fiber and an efficient hull shape to deliver a sporty-looking ride.

The tender can be ordered with an owner’s choice of an electric outboard or an electric jet drive; customers can also choose a 16-kilowatt-hour lithium battery or upgrade to a 20 kWh battery for longer reach. The boat purportedly allows for two hours of run time at 10 knots, and it can be fast-charged in two and a half hours.

The 13-foot ST400 accommodates up to six passengers but weighs only 198 pounds, excluding propulsion. The boat is a center-console that borrows aesthetic choices from the company’s 60- and 80-foot catamarans, including angular lines, a distinctive black-and-white finish and stem-to-stern chines. The ST400 also carries a practical yet stylish rubber stripe that helps protect its carbon-fiber topsides from docks, davits and poor docking decisions.

Whom It’s For: Boaters who want a high-tech, lightweight and performance-minded tender that can do 20-plus knots sans a traditional internal-combustion engine.

Picture This: You and your family are cruising Cape Cod, Massachusetts, aboard the solar-powered Silent 60 catamaran. You tuck into Provincetown for the evening. The mooring lines are secured, and you and the troops cruise over to Long Point Light Station in your ST400 before making a harbor tour and then heading to the Lobster Pot for dinner and drinks.

Riva’s El-Iseo is based on the company’s Iseo runabout but with an all-electric drivetrain that reportedly allows up to 10 hours of quiet running time in economy mode. Notch things up a few clicks, and the El-Iseo’s Parker Hannifin-built GMV310 electric motor can generate 25-knot cruising speeds and 40-knot top speeds. Run time is provided by the boat’s lithium-ion battery banks, while onboard styling comes courtesy of Riva’s DNA.

Whom It’s For: Boaters who want to cruise stylishly at 25 knots and have the ability to tickle 40 knots without emitting carbon dioxide.

Picture This: It’s a nice spring evening in Annapolis, Maryland, so you and your first mate cruise guilt-free up the Severn River. From your El-Iseo, you take in the sprawling view of the U.S. Naval Academy before running over to Cantler’s Riverside Inn for dinner ashore.

The Iguana Sport combines the best attributes of Iguana Yachts’ existing Iguana range into a high-performance, amphibious-landing center-console that accommodates 12 people. The boat carries Iguana Yachts’ landing-gear system, which functions like retractable tank treads to facilitate beach landings on terrain ranging from soft sand and mud to rock-encrusted shores. The Iguana Sport also can negotiate beach landings in seas up to 4 feet. The Iguana Sport can handle up to 700 hp, delivered via dual optional Mercury 350 hp outboards. The standard configuration is a single 300 hp outboard. The hull carries hard chines that run from its plumb bow to its transom, and its undercarriage has dual strakes on either side of its centerline.

Whom It’s For: Boaters seeking 48-knot top speeds who also want the ability to land on any coastline and climb slopes up to 22 degrees.

Picture This: It’s a perfect summer day on Nantucket in Massachusetts, and the kids are clamoring to go exploring. So, you load up your Iguana Sport and take a run north to Great Point Lighthouse before spinning the helm south toward Eel Point. You cut the throttle, and then you deploy the boat’s integrated tracks. Moments later, your shortest crew members have already scrambled down the folding transom ladder to play in the surf, leaving just you and your partner to enjoy a few precious moments alone.

Lomac’s GranTurismo 11 Cruiser is based off the company’s 10.5 hull but provides expanded belowdecks accommodations space for short cruises. The RIB’s underbelly is built using isophthalic vinylester resin and a vacuum-infusion process, while its tubes are constructed from a multi-axial fabric that allows for strength and performance. Owners can spec the boat with twin 350 hp outboards; however, the Italian builder suggests that twin 300s might be better. A protective center console and a U-shaped dinette with a lifting table define the cockpit, while the foredeck has a sun-worshipping zone.

Whom It’s For: Boaters who want the speed and performance of a two-door with the no-regrets practicality of a four-door.

Picture This: It’s blowing hard in Newport, Rhode Island, for the start of the famous Newport Bermuda Race, and your kids want to see the action. So you hop in your Lomac GranTurismo 11 Cruiser and blast through the chop on Narragansett Bay before chasing the fleet into Block Island Sound.
