After building 600 semicustom trawlers, Kadey-Krogen is picking up the pace, literally. It’s just-announced a new brand called Summit MotorYachts . The first model is the Summit 54, and she will have a planing-hull form with an estimated 26-knot top hop.

That’s some serious potential performance from the longtime trawler builder, known for long-distance-cruising, full-displacement yachts that generally travel at about 8 to 9 knots. Naval architect Michael Peters, who has created designs for boatbuilders ranging from Cabo and Prestige to Contender and Chris-Craft, worked with Kadey-Krogen on penning the Summit 54’s hull form.

“We have designed the Summit 54 to blend uncluttered indoor accommodation with outdoor living, with performance and excellent sea keeping,” stated Peters in a press release.

To that end, using glass in almost the entire the superstructure combined with cut-down bulwarks from amidships aft to the cockpit, should provide stunning vistas from the salon while also increasing the flow light into the 54’s interior spaces.

The Summit 54 has two alfresco entertainment spaces: The cockpit, complete with bar to port and set against the salon bulkhead and a U-shape dining area with table at the transom. Her flybridge overhang stretches aft over the cockpit offering shade below, while opening up real estate for the centerline helm for two up top. Bench seating is to port of the helm and there’s a davit and tender setup all the way aft.

The builder says it’s currently taking orders for 2019 deliveries.
