The bluewater-capable Marlow 78E was the flagship in a series that ranged from 53 to 78 feet length overall.

Notable features: During Yachting’s 2005 sea trial of the 78E, the fully loaded (about 100,000 pounds) yacht made a top hop of 25.4 knots. Power? A pair of 1,250 hp D-rated 3412 Cats. Brand founder David Marlow says that another 78E with C-rated 3412s could make approximately 30 knots.

Availability: At press time, seven Marlow 78Es were on the market, ranging from 2005 to 2010 and from $1,414,457 to $2,559,000.

“Like a proud parent, Marlow gave me a sneak peek. … ‘This particular owner wants a spiral staircase right in the middle of the pilothouse to the the accommodations. Man, we rung our brains on that one,’ Marlow said. ‘But I think it will work.’”
