Something exciting is coming from Pardo Yachts: a new yacht introducing a new range.

The Pardo GT52 is the first boat in the GT range, which the Italian builder says is positioned between its Endurance and Walkaround ranges. The GT52  joins a lineup of five other boats, ranging from 36 feet to 75 feet length overall, across all ranges. Pardo introduced the GT52 in April in St-Tropez, French Riviera. We’re eagerly awaiting information about a U.S. debut date.

The GT52 can come with a galley-up or galley-down layout. In both, guests can enjoy meals and socialize at a portside sofa that has a wooden table. The cockpit, accessed through a centerline door, has more get-together real estate: Here, there’s a forward-facing, C-shaped sofa with a square dinette, and aft-facing settees that flank the salon door.

With the galley up, it’s to starboard and directly across from the portside furnishings. There’s a stainless-steel sink and a two-burner cooktop. One benefit of the centralized galley location is that it allows hosts to serve all areas of the boat.

Socializing is a key element aboard the Pardo GT52. The cockpit, for instance, is a relaxation space where guests can enjoy drinks by the water or sunbathe in groups. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

Just forward of the galley is the helm station with seating for two. Follow the adjacent stairs belowdecks, and here, Pardo gives owners more options: either a third stateroom with bunk berths, or a lounge with an L-shaped sofa and a TV.

As for the galley-down format, which was part of the GT52’s global debut, the galley on the main deck is replaced by an L-shaped sofa that lifts on struts to create helm seating. Belowdecks, the galley is afforded significantly more countertop space than in the galley-up layout. It’s U-shaped and wraps around from the portside base of the stairs to the forepeak master stateroom door.

The Pardo GT52 can be ordered with the galley up or down. In the galley-up setup, there is helm seating for two; with the galley down, the starboard-side settee lifts on struts with a flip-over backrest to form a helm seat. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

Accommodations are for four or six, depending on whether owners opt for a third stateroom for, say, grandchildren in the galley-up setup. The forepeak master has a king-size berth offset to port. To starboard is a sofa where two can sit cozily. The en suite head is in the bow. A twin-berth guest stateroom is amidships with an en suite head that also serves as the day head. The GT52 has a single crew cabin amidships and to port.

Standard power is twin Volvo Penta IPS650 diesels, and there are options for IPS700 or 800 diesels as well. At press time, the Pardo GT52’s projected performance information was unavailable.

Pardo Yachts in Italy has outfitted one of its Pardo 50s with custom-made fabrics from the Italian brand Missoni at the request of an owner who plans to use the boat in Miami.

The builder describes the style as “customized geometric patterns of zigzags, minimalist lines and a kaleidoscope of colors.”

“With the precious help of interior designer Cristina Pizzuto, who made the union between Pardo Yachts and Missoni possible, we were introduced to Missoni’s headquarters in Milan,” says boat owner Heigo Paartalu, brand ambassador of Pardo Yachts. “There, we were able to browse and choose patterns and materials for our boat: an incredible experience with the purpose of creating something worthy of haute couture. Sitting in Missoni’s studio and feeling like Anna Wintour, I realized how these two leading Italian brands would be an amazing match. Despite coming from such different industries, they would create more than just a boat: a real icon of fashion and style on the water.”

What has the boat been christened? Pegasus. It’s the third Pardo by that name for the same owner.

Fall boat-show season is always a time to be excited about new launches and yacht designs, but this year the Monaco Yacht Show is adding another level with an Adventure Area. This new part of the show will feature all kinds of things that yachtsmen need for expedition-style cruising, including sporty tenders, off-road vehicles, helicopters and high-tech gadgets.

Sign us up for all of that and more, please. We’re especially keen to have a look this season at the new yachts, all of which caught our eye for different reasons.

Pardo GT52: First Model in a New Range

The Pardo GT52 is the first model in a new range that builder Pardo Yachts in Italy says falls between its Walkaround and Endurance ranges. The GT52 is designed for owners who want more volume and layout flexibility in the guest areas, but without sacrificing performance. Owners can choose either galley-up or galley-down layouts, with the engines placed closer to the stern, allowing more space for the interior cabin options. That extra space, depending on which galley setup is chosen, can be used for an additional stateroom, a TV lounge, or a larger dinette and a more extensively equipped galley. Standard power is a pair of 650 hp Volvo Penta IPS engines, with 700 hp and 800 hp as options.

Absolute Navetta 75: The New Flagship

The Absolute Navetta 75 is the new flagship of the Italian builder’s Navetta line, which starts at a Navetta 48 and now includes seven models overall. The Navetta 75 has a full-beam owner’s stateroom at the bow, on a level raised to offer more privacy and wider views of the surroundings. The flybridge “terrace,” as Absolute calls it, has no fixed furnishings, so owners can set up the space however they desire. The cockpit below, on the main level, is similarly arranged for maximum flexibility. Crew quarters are aft, giving the crew and guests alike their privacy, and there are stairs to the flybridge from the bow as well as the stern, so the crew can move around as needed without disturbing anyone else on board.

Fairline Phantom 65: The Builder’s First Sport Bridge

The Fairline Phantom 65 is the British builder’s first sport-bridge model, and it has an exterior inspired by the design of the Fairline Targa 65. There are two engine options: twin 1,150 hp Caterpillar C18s for a reported top speed of 31 knots, or twin 1,622 hp V-12 Caterpillar C32s that Fairline says will juice that speed in excess of 35 knots. Inside, owners can choose a three- or four-stateroom layout, including an owner’s stateroom with a king-size berth. The galley is aft on the main deck, with a bar that extends to the cockpit, helping to create an indoor-outdoor space. Draft on the Phantom 65 is 5 feet, 2 inches, making the boat ready to explore the Bahamas or any similarly shallow cruising grounds.

Sirena 78: Ready for Relaxation

Onboard entertainment was top of mind with designers at Turkey-based Sirena Yachts as they developed the Sirena 78. The yacht falls between the Sirena 68 and Sirena 88 in the builder’s lineup, and is different from similar-size builds in that it has no main-deck helm station. Instead, that space is opened up for guest relaxation, with what Sirena calls a “massive galley” for food prep, full-size appliances and parties. Up top, owners can choose an open, semi-enclosed or fully enclosed flybridge, and the foredeck is intended to be used as an alfresco lounge with tables, settees and a sun pad. Down below, accommodations include a full-beam master stateroom amidships and a VIP stateroom in the bow. Both are ensuite.

Italy’s Pardo Yachts held the world premiere of the Pardo GT52 in Saint-Tropez in April. The entire Pardo lineup was on display: Pardo 38, Pardo 43, Pardo 50, Pardo GT52 and Endurance 60.

The new GT line is positioned between Pardo’s Walkaround and Endurance lines. It’s designed for owners who want more volume without sacrificing performance.

Stern doors can be opened completely (similar to the Endurance 60); the swim platform is larger, for housing a tender or personal watercraft; and the roof on the GT52 has a semi-open mode. The cockpit dining and sunbathing spaces are expanded, and the belowdecks space is more flexible.

To that point, the Pardo GT52 can be ordered galley-up or galley-down. With the galley up, there’s a salon space belowdecks; with the galley down, there’s a dinette lounge on the main deck.

The Pardo GT52’s hull is an evolution of the Pardo 50, with the same standard twin 650-horsepower Volvo Penta IPS power. Owners can choose 700 or 800 horsepower as an option.

What are the key specs for the Pardo GT52? Beam is more than 16 feet, fuel capacity is 528 gallons, and water capacity is 158 gallons.

Pardo Yachts has created a line of stylish walkaround yachts from 38 to 50 feet, known for their instantly recognizable sleek and low profile, peppy performance, and modern construction methods and materials. With its Endurance 60, the Italian builder takes its walkaround philosophy to new lengths. It also adds a flybridge and expands accommodations for friends-and-family voyaging.

The new flybridge has sun pads and sofas, expanded entertainment space, and room for owners to add a second, optional helm. In profile, the yacht maintains the brand’s sinewy DNA. This aesthetic is enhanced by the plumb bow, stretching the profile and helping to increase internal volume. The way the Endurance 60′s sheer sweeps down and aft toward the cockpit, paralleling the design of the flybridge above it, further enhances the look.

Power is twin 700 or 800 hp Volvo Penta IPS diesels. The builder projects a 25-knot top-end speed. Cruise-speed range is reportedly 14 to 21 knots.

Nearly 360 degrees of glass in the superstructure, combined with a light, blond teak interior, makes the Endurance 60’s salon feel open and airy. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

Accommodations include a full-beam master stateroom amidships with an en suite head. The forepeak VIP stateroom has an en suite head and can be set up with either twins or a double berth. There’s also a crew cabin with a head.

The Endurance 60 has foldout terraces flanking the cockpit, helping to create 376 square feet of outdoor entertainment space, including a cockpit lounge and table, and foredeck sun pads. The hydraulic swim platform should be handy when it’s time to launch the tender or take a swim.

The Endurance 60′s look and function offer a glimpse toward the horizon where Pardo may take this yacht series next, and it’s a view with a lot of promise.

Pardo Yachts in Italy has splashed Hull No. 1 of its new flagship model, the Pardo Endurance 60.

More than 200 hulls of the Pardo 38, 43 and 50 have been sold in three years, according to the builder, with the Pardo Endurance 60 now joining the fleet.

Computational fluid dynamics were used in the design phase, with naval architecture by Davide Leone, and interiors by Nauta Design. Those interiors include white lacquer and blonde teak.

Projections are for long range with a cruising speed of 10 to 12 knots along with a planing speed of 23 to 25 knots. With Volvo Penta IPS800 engines, the boat reportedly burns an average of 10.5 gallons of fuel per hour, providing a range of about 700 miles at 10 knots.

“The Endurance 60 is a project in which the ability to navigate well in displacement and planing stands out,” Gigi Servidati, head of new model development at Cantiere del Pardo, stated in a press release. “This is why we have thoroughly studied the hull lines using CFD analysis, making the most of the know-how that comes from almost 50 years of experience in shipbuilding.”

Pardo 38
The Pardo 38 can be powered with inboard or outboard propulsion. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

Forli, Italy-based Cantiere del Pardo, known since the early ’70s for its Grand Soleil range of sailing cruisers, made its first foray into the walkaround-cruiser segment with the Pardo 43 in 2017. A year later came the Pardo 50. Now, we have the smallest sibling, the Pardo 38.

Outwardly, all three models look virtually identical in profile and on deck—think daddy bear, mommy bear and baby bear in terms of scale. They all have a distinctive reverse bow, pop-out anchor cradles, high bulwarks capped with teak, carbon-fiber center consoles and T-tops, cockpit galleys, sun pads fore and aft, and aft-deck tables. The 38 just shrinks these elements into an entry-level package. And while I don’t usually like reverse-bow designs, I have to say that I like these.

Propulsion choices include twin sterndrives, or twin or triple outboards, providing top-end speeds from the mid-30s to the low-50-knot range. Standard power is twin gasoline Volvo Penta V6-280s/DPS.

Pardo 38 interior
The US importer, Pardo Yachts Miami, has sold nine Pardo 43s and four Pardo 50s, and is awaiting its first Pardo 38. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

The Pardo 38 I got aboard had the bigger Volvo Penta D6-380s maxing out just shy of 40 knots in relatively flat seas with seven people aboard, and with fuel and water tanks a quarter and two-thirds full, respectively. At a 30-knot cruise, the diesels were spinning at 3,000 rpm and consuming around 26 gallons of fuel per hour, which means the boat had 10 hours, or 300 nautical miles, of run time. Twin D6-440s can push the top-end speed to the mid-40s, according to the builder. And for those preferring outboards, twin Mercury Verado 300s or 350s, or triple 300s, are available.

The Pardo 38 has a modified-V hull form with spray rails and a 20.5-degree deadrise aft. The ride is precise, a credit to designer Maurizio Zuccheri and Pardo’s in-house team.

Pardo 38 helm
Teak-capped bulwarks accent the Pardo 38’s straight-edge sheerline. Further enhancing the boat’s streamlined look is the retractable anchor, a feature found on all Pardo models. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

For weekends aboard, the decor is contemporary cool with white laminates and light-oak veneers. There is a double berth forward, and a head compartment with a shower is amidships. Owners can add two optional, undercockpit berths. Space above those berths is limited, but there’s almost 6 feet of headroom between them, which makes dressing easier.

This boat may be the little sister of the line, but the Pardo 38 possesses all of the performance, style and charisma of her bigger siblings.

The Pardo 50 is part of a new generation of mega-size walkaround yachts. Instead of a center-console cabin with a portable toilet, there are two staterooms, two heads with showers and room for a civilized single-berth crew cabin with its own head.

Is this a long-range cruiser? Nope, but the Pardo 50 is built for long weekends at Bimini, Nantucket or Catalina Island. Even just for afternoon outings with family and friends, there are user-friendly features, including 30-inch-wide teak side decks that lead forward to a 7-foot-6-inch-wide sun pad with pillows, a removable overhead sunshade and pop-in speakers. The bow also features twin couches with a removable table, creating a perfect spot for relaxing after dropping the hidden, retractable anchor.

The teak-clad cockpit is the yacht’s social center, with a six-person wraparound settee and a teak table that rises and lowers on a chrome pedestal, and unfolds like origami from cocktail size to a dining table. Just forward is a console with a sink, a two-burner Schott induction cooktop and two fridge drawers.

Name Recognition

Pardo Yachts may be new to North American skippers, but it’s been in the European market since 1973. Cantiere del Pardo has built more than 4,000 vessels, including the Grand Soleil line of sailing yachts to 80 feet. Known for its willingness to customize a design, Pardo builds powerboats using vinylester resins with foam-filled carbon-fiber stringers, solid fiberglass bottoms and foam-cored topsides.

All of this is shaded by a carbon-fiber hardtop mounted on sweptback pylons that are as rakish as the single-piece windshield. The hardtop has six darkened moonroofs, and my test vessel had an electric slide-out SureShade to cover the settee and dining area. Abaft that entertainment area was another sun pad, with adjustable backrests.

Pardo 50 belowdecks interior
While primarily a dayboat, the Pardo 50 has a nearly king-size master berth for overnights and weekends on the hook. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

The sense of volume and light surprised me as I descended belowdecks. The 50’s brightness is aided in part by pale Alpi “timeless oak” paneling and opening ports in each stateroom. The master has 6-foot-3-inch headroom and a nearly king-size berth (80 inches by 65 inches) with walkaround room; it’s 5 feet from the berth to the stateroom door. The en suite head is equally civilized, with a shower measuring bigger than 3 feet by 3 feet. The vessel sink is trendy, and there are Euro-style fixtures. A pullout drawer under the berth, plus hanging lockers with shelving and self-closing drawers in a bureau, provides stowage for a long weekend. This stateroom also has a mini fridge, limiting trips to the galley for a snack.

Forward Thinking

One look at the inverted bow, and an experienced skipper might imagine dings and chips from anchoring, but an entire section pushes outward, carrying a sturdy roller assembly along with a Quick anchor. A video camera tucked in the rode locker, viewed on monitors at the helm, gives the captain a view of what is going down or up. The watertight bulkhead in the chain locker is good protection against collision too.

Like the master, the guest stateroom has over 6-foot-3-inch headroom, a pair of 34-inch-wide berths that slide together to form a double, a nightstand, a hanging locker and direct access to what doubles as a day head with a shower. No tiptoeing around in the corridor to reach the loo.

Pardo 50 interior from top
The sense of interior volume on the Pardo 50 can be deceiving when viewing the yacht from the outside. Belowdecks, there is 6-foot-3-inch headroom in the master and guest staterooms. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

But this is a yacht for outside living, with the option for a transom garage that holds a 9-foot-6-inch Williams TurboJet 285 tender that reportedly makes about 44 knots. Abaft the garage, which has rubber rollers for the tender’s launch and retrieval, is a hydraulic swim platform wide enough to stow a PWC.

Given that a crew cabin and a tender garage are space eaters, I expected the engine room to be minuscule, but it wasn’t. I dropped down the five-step ladder into the engine room and soon realized I wasn’t alone: There was a Volvo Penta service tech at work. And we weren’t cramped.

Proven Power

The Volvo Penta IPS800s on the Pardo 50 are powered by the Volvo Penta D11, a diesel revered for its use in trucks. The marinized version is an inline six-cylinder with twin entry turbos; a supercharger for low rpm response; and a common-rail fuel system for optimized fuel injection. To maximize engine-room space and lower the 50’s profile, the D11s are linked to the pods using jackshafts, a setup that keeps weight amidships.

I won’t tell you there’s standing headroom (it’s 4 feet, 8 inches), but the walkway between the engines is wide, and he had room aft to kneel sideways, which is why I didn’t see him. The engines on this Pardo 50 were the optional twin 600 hp Volvo Penta IPS800s. Standard power is a pair of 435 hp IPS600s, and an in-between option is 550 hp IPS700, but I’d opt for the 600s as on our Pardo 50—in for a penny, in for a pound.

With the engine package, skippers get joystick controls as well as the Volvo Penta Interceptor vertical trim tabs that automatically adjust to the best running angle. This Pardo 50 also had a Quick gyrostabilizer, adding to stability without cramping the engine room, and a 4-kW Cummins Onan generator.

Pardo 50 moving in the water
The transom sun pad measures 7 feet, 6 inches wide. High gunwales and 30-inch-wide side decks are designed for safe transit around the yacht. Courtesy Pardo Yachts

I settled into the bolstered helm seats abaft the dash with twin 16-inch Garmin multifunction displays, and I put the hammer down. The 50 planes at 12 knots, and 38 knots comes up quickly. This Pardo 50 ran from Miami to Palm Beach, Florida, in lumpy Gulf Stream 3-footers at a steady 30-knot cruise that was comfortable and dry for everyone aboard. I was told that with 23 people aboard and full fuel during the Cannes Yachting Festival, this same Pardo 50 hit 35 knots.

For the dayboat enthusiast seeking performance, panache and the muscle to back it all up, the Pardo 50 is worth a look.
