Azimut Yachts’ foray into high-performance vessels began with the 86S. Twin 2,000 hp 16V 2000 MTU diesels power the 86-footer to a 40-knot top hop. The ride is made smoother by the 86S’s deep-V hull form with a 13-degree transom deadrise.

The master stateroom has side windows and a breakfast nook, and there are a guest stateroom and a forepeak VIP. The enclosed salon is made into an open-air space when the sunroof and cockpit-connecting door are opened.

At press time, there were eight Azimut 86S’s on the market, ranging from $1,416,845 to $3,379,087.

From the Archive

“Compared with Azimut’s more sedate motoryachts, the ride of this sporting version is rather like the difference between a sports car and a town car. The suspension on the sports version tends to be much firmer, and that is the case here. A certain not-unwelcome harshness in the ride tends to cut in at speeds over 30 knots, giving a greater feeling of performance.”
