Australian yacht builder Riviera has launched its 58 Sports Motor Yacht, the latest model in this six-yacht series, which also includes 46-, 50, 64-, 68- and 72-footers.

The yacht has a three-stateroom, three-head layout, making it a solid fit for extended cruising with family and friends. The staterooms are accessed via a stairway on centerline from the salon. The owners’ stateroom is full-beam with a queen-size berth, en suite head, walk-in closet and a breakfast bar.

In a press release Riviera stated, “The space aft of the master stateroom can be personalised to suit the owners’ needs; perhaps as a laundry, utility room, crew cabin, additional accommodation with a separate bathroom, or even a mini gymnasium.”

The forepeak VIP also has a queen-size berth with walkaround room as well as an en suite head. The third guest stateroom is abaft and to port with twin single berths with bedside tables. The berths slide together with the push of a button for couples. The third stateroom is across the companionway to starboard, serving as the day head.

The efficiency of the belowdecks layout is also reflected in the salon arrangement, creating several social zones.

It starts with the 58 Sports motor Yacht’s U-shaped galley aft, which is penned to easily serve guests in the salon as well as those seated at the shaded al fresco deck and in the cockpit. Open the galley window to create a seamless connection between the inside and outside spaces.

Forward and to port is an L-shaped settee, designed to let guests take in the views underway via nearly 360 degrees of glass. Abaft to starboard is a U-shaped dinette for casual meals. Directly across is the internal stairway that leads to the enclosed flybridge helm station.

The 58 Sports Motor Yacht’s aforementioned al fresco deck, which is protected from the elements via glass quarter panels, is cleverly arranged just a couple of steps up from the cockpit. This perch creates clear views aft to watch the kids swimming or to keep an eye on trolled baits when fishing for dinner. There is U-shaped seating around a high-gloss teak dining table to starboard with a settee to port.

In addition to being a formidable cruising platform, the 58 Sports Motor Yacht’s cockpit can be arranged for angling enthusiasts, diving and water sports fans, entertainment-centric cruisers or a little bit of all of it. A nearly full-beam and optional hydraulic swim platform lets owners launch and retrieve a tender or PWC.

There are two more al fresco entertainment spaces on board the 58 Sports Motor Yacht. The first is on the foredeck, where guests can enjoy an L-shaped lounge as well as seating that converts to a pad, all set around a table for meals on the hook. Just add carbon fiber poles to put up an awning for shade from the midday sun. Owners can also add a davit and stow their tender here.

The final al fresco next space is found on the after deck of the all-weather flybridge. Riviera says, “In similar style to the salon below, the flybridge opens and flows out to the aft deck. At anchor, this is a splendid private retreat or boutique entertaining area complete with wrap-around corner lounge, folding timber table, wet bar, refrigerator, sink and solid surface benchtop. To assist the skipper, the aft deck has an additional joystick control station with excellent visibility for precise docking or sport fishing.”

Forward and to port is the helm station with two hand-stitched-leather seats. According to Riviera, “The helm is state-of-the-art, featuring touchscreen navigation and operation technology…” There is also an electric sunroof and side sliding windows that enable fresh breezes.

Outer Reef Yachts, whose boats are known for their globe-girdling cruising itineraries, has launched its 670 Azure Sport Yacht.

This bluewater-capable, owner-operator cruiser, which is the flagship of the builder’s six-model S Class lineup, starts with solid hand-laid fiberglass construction for the hull below the waterline. Above the waterline, PVC sandwich core is used for strength without added weight. All in, this 67-footer displaces about 99,000 pounds. The yacht is outfitted with ABT Trac 220 stabilizers with 6-square-foot fins to further enhance the ride over the long haul.

Power for the 670 Azure Sport Yacht is a pair of 985 hp Caterpillar C-12.9 diesels paired to a ZF transmission. (The standard spec is twin 500 hp John Deere diesels.) In addition to main engines, those passages are supported by two 20 kW Northern Lights gensets to ensure all of the hotel loads, including the MarineAir direct air conditioning, have the required juice when the only sight is the next horizon.

The 670 Azure Sport Yacht has two helm stations, one forward and to starboard on the main deck with a single helm chair and companion seat across, and a second, double-wide helm seat on centerline on the flybridge. Both helm stations have Stidd seats and Garmin multifunction displays. The flybridge also has an L-shaped settee seating to port and abaft the helm as well as room for a grill and tender stowage on the aft deck.

Accommodations include a full-beam (17’2”) owners’ stateroom amidships with a king-size berth, a walk-in closet, satin-finish teak bulkheads, doors and cabinets, and an en suite head with teak-and-holly sole and a shower. There is also a forepeak VIP with a queen-size berth and a guest stateroom to port with two bunks. The VIP has access to the guest head with a shower. There is also head access off the companionway.

On the main-deck, the entertainment-centric layout starts with the galley aft. A drop-down window helps create a seamless connection between the salon and cockpit. The Azure 670 Sport Yacht’s galley is set up with GE appliances, in microwave, electric cooktop, oven, undercounter refrigerator, trash compactor and garbage disposal.

In the cockpit, there are two bar stools and a countertop facing the galley further illustrating the indoor-outdoor connectivity. There is also a dining table under the flybridge overhang abaft the bar area with bench seating along the transom.

Stairs to starboard lead to the lower teak cockpit, while a second door provides access to the hydraulic swim platform, which lowers to let owners to launch a tender and water toys, as well as prep to go scuba diving and swimming.

For sun and breeze, accompanied by some quietude, the 670 Azure Sport Yacht has a foredeck lounge with U-shaped seating around a teak table. It’s a great spot for sundowners on the hook.

With its robust construction, long-range-cruising accommodations, reliable power and a layout conducive to family-friendly voyages, the Outer Reef Yachts 670 Azure Sport Yacht should make the short list for enthusiasts ready to aim for that second star to the left and head straight on till morning.

By now, the boating world at large is aware that power catamarans have found an ever-growing fan base; they’re not just a trend. SilverYachts is looking to further cement the multihull’s position by bringing new owners into the fold with its latest project: the SilverCat 22M. This 70-foot power catamaran is an owner-operator vessel that will join two other SilverCat models—the nearly 118-foot 36M and the 78-foot 24M—as the line’s new entry-level yacht.

With its aluminum construction, the 22M is lightweight yet sturdy. Powered with twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels, the builder reports a top speed of 20 knots; reported cruising speed is 17 knots. the powercat’s draft is just under 4 feet, making this yacht Bahamas-friendly.

Also Bahamas-friendly is the SilverCat 22M’s optional hydraulic swim platform. From here, guests have easy access to the water for a dip or they can launch a Williams DieselJet 415 tender into the water. Forward in the cockpit is forward-facing bench seating for at least four and a dining table with space for at least six free-standing chairs beneath an overhang. Farther forward and to port, there is a day head and belowdecks crew access; to starboard, there is a wet bar and stairs leading to the flybridge.

The upper deck offers more opportunities to enjoy alfresco living. Aft, there are four sofas arranged in a U-shaped formation, and they’re accompanied by two coffee tables; however, this furniture can be arranged however an owner desires. Owners can also opt for a retractable awning aft to cover this lounging space when the sun gets high in the sky.

Forward, there is a dining table for 10, space for at least two more modular chairs to port and a wet bar to starboard. The upper helm station is positioned forward and to port, as well. Above, there is a retractable sunroof.

The main deck’s interior offers a similar experience but enclosed: Dining for 10 is to port and a lounge with loose-furniture arrangements is to starboard. Here, the helm station is forward and to starboard. Guests can also lounge on the foredeck, where there is a forward-facing, U-shaped settee that’s flanked by sun pads.

Accommodations and the galley are belowdecks. For starters, the galley and an en suite guest stateroom are in the portside hull, with another day-head abaft the stairs, too. The master and another en suite guest stateroom are in the starboard hull. Owners will have a king berth, a vanity and his-and-hers sinks.

Exterior design is by Espen Øino International, while Tillber Design of Sweden handled the 22M’s interior design.

Quick Specifications:

  • Length Overall: 72’2”
  • Maximum Beam: 35’5”

VisionF Yachts in Turkey has launched its 78-foot flagship, all-aluminum power catamaran dubbed the Vision F82.

In addition to the powercat’s 78-foot-7-inch length overall, the Vision F82 is notable for its nearly 32-foot beam, which helps create wide-open entertainment spaces like the 581-square-foot salon. The builder says there is an option to have the galley adjacent to the salon. Additionally, the yacht’s size allows for a three-stateroom layout with the owner’s stateroom found in the starboard hull, complete with closets and en suite head with shower and his-and-hers sinks. There’s also room for two crew cabins for four people.

Outside spaces also benefit from the yacht’s LOA and beam, including foredeck with sun pad, a sunken lounge with a sofa and a table (shaded by the flybridge overhang). There is also room for a Williams jet tender and a Sea Doo water scooter, which, according to VisionF, can be launched and retrieved via a dedicated crane. The aft deck is set up with a sofa, four chairs, a dining table and another sun pad nearby. This area offers seamless access to the swim platform.

In addition to the sun pads, there is a protected and sunken lounge space just forward of the powercat’s house. Courtesy VisionF Yachts

Spanning nearly full beam, the flybridge has a two-seat helm forward and to port. The space is flexible and can be arranged with loose furniture for lounging and catching rays. According to VisionF, “to enhance privacy when docked stern-to in the marina, a screen is positioned between the two support pillars at the back.”

From a performance perspective, the Vision F82 is powered with twin Volvo Penta 1050 IPS diesels paired to pod drives, which reportedly provide a top hop of 16 knots and a 1,600-nautical-mile range. The builder says its “eco package” option uses batteries to help the yacht’s hotel loads run sans a generator for up to 20 hours. We provide clients with a yachting experience that is ecologically responsible,” said Ali Tanir, general manager at VisionF Yachts.

Hull No. 1 of the Vision F82 was built on spec and is set up for the American market, while hull No. 2 is going to a European owner. Hull Nos. 3 and 4 are on track for a March and May 2024 completion, respectively, and are available to be customized for interested owners.

In early November, Westport Yachts in Washington State launched the ninth hull of its Westport 125 series.

The model has continued to prove popular since Hull No. 1 launched in 2016, marking the first new model in a decade for the builder that had long been known for the Westport 112 and Westport 130. More than 100 of those two models have been built.

When the 125 first appeared, Westport said it drew on popular features from the 112 and 130 models, giving owners a way to move up to a bigger yacht from the 112 without having to go all the way to the size of the 130. Like the 112, the 125 has a raised pilothouse (as opposed to the 130’s trideck design).

“The launch of the enhanced Westport 125 is a significant milestone for Westport Yachts, and it exemplifies their unwavering commitment to excellence in the luxury yachting industry,” the company announced in a press release. “The yacht will now undergo final outfitting and sea trials before being delivered to her excited owner.”

What are the accommodations aboard the Westport 125? The yacht has staterooms for 10 guests as well as quarters for five or six crew.

The Ferretti Group’s Custom Line shipyard has unveiled details about the Navetta 38, with construction already underway and on track for a delivery date in 2024.

Exteriors on the Custom Line Navetta 38 are by Filippo Salvetti, with interiors by ACPV Architects.

According to the Custom Line team, the Navetta 38 will have a master stateroom that spans about 430 square feet, along with completely separate guest and crew quarters to maximize everyone’s privacy on board.

Custom Line is also promising “a completely new take on the full-beam beach deck concept,” with the beach club and the cockpit of the main deck combining into a space of more than 750 square feet. The idea is to incorporate freestanding modular units that give the space multifunctional options at the water’s edge. Two gunwales will open to enhance the space even further.

Van Der Valk Shipyard in the Netherlands has started construction on Project 111.11, which is a custom 112-foot yacht designed by Guido de Groot.

The owners, who are experienced boaters, based the design on the yard’s previous launch, Lady Lene. The new yacht will include a fully custom superstructure, with interiors by Carla Guilhem.

“The initial brief was to blend their own design with a proven hull form for a reinforced all-aluminum hull in a full-displacement format,” Van Der Valk’s head of sales, Yoeri Bijker, stated in a press release. “Using the engineering platform from a successful build like Lady Lene generates major cost and efficiency synergies while allowing for an entirely different look and feel.”

What are the key elements in the owners’ spec? They want five staterooms including a full-beam master on the main deck, spacious crew quarters and a multifunctional beach club with a garage for watersports gear and toys.

Hull No. 1 of the Sirena 48 made its official debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, adding a new entry-level model to the Turkish builder’s lineup of yachts. The Sirena 48 joins the Sirena 58, the Sirena 68, the Sirena 78 and the Sirena 88, and incorporates many of the same features that make the larger yachts popular. Presenting those features in a smaller package is intended to appeal to younger yacht-buyers, including families with children that may want to move up to larger versions as the family grows.

Article At-A-Glance

  • New entry-level model for Sirena Yachts
  • Designed by Germán Frers to appeal to younger buyers
  • Crewed and owner-operator versions available
  • More than 20 hulls sold before the official debut

Key Elements of the Sirena 48

Sirena Yachts says that, even before the Sirena 48 was presented to the public at the Cannes Yachting Festival, more than 20 hulls were already sold. Quite a few of those owners said they intend to be owner-operators out on the water without crew, taking advantage of the wide views and clear sightlines from the Sirena 48’s flybridge.

Performance

The Sirena 48 has a semi-displacement hull form that is efficient in displacement mode, but also allows for fast planing performance. According to the builder, the yacht can hit a top hop of 27 knots, and it has a cruising speed of 15 to 16 knots. The economical cruising speed is 10 knots, which reportedly allows for a range of 520 nautical miles.

Layout Options

Owners can choose among several layouts on the Sirena 48. Options include an open layout and a more traditional aft deck. In the latter, there’s extra stowage where a crew cabin would otherwise be, accessible via a full-height door that opens from the transom. Accommodations for overnight guests are in three staterooms, while the crew cabin is optional.

Owner and Guest Amenities

The Sirena 48 has three decks: a sundeck, a main deck and a bottom deck. Throughout the three levels, the designers incorporated areas for relaxation, dining and entertaining. Sirena Yachts says the yacht is equally well-suited for a group of friends out enjoying a day cruise, or for families and friends who want to head out on longer itineraries, including spending overnights on the hook.

Sirena 48
In addition to a sun pad that consumes almost the entirety of the forward half of the flybridge, this space also has C-shaped seating aft. Courtesy Sirena Yachts

Sundeck

Up on the sundeck, the Sirena 48 has a large sun pad forward with expansive views both forward and all around the yacht. There’s also guest seating aft in a C-shaped lounge that wraps around two smaller tables that are ideal for a light breakfast, a casual lunch or hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour. A helm station is to port, just forward of a console where drinks and snacks can be stowed for easy access.

Sirena 48

Main Deck

On the Sirena 48’s main deck, there’s another big sun pad forward at the foredeck, as well as more guest seating all the way aft with a table for food and drinks. Inside, there’s a helm station to starboard that’s fully protected for use in any weather conditions. There’s also inside seating and dining, with the galley aft to make service easy for the guests sitting inside as well as outside on the aft deck.

Accommodations

All the guest staterooms are on the lower deck. There are three staterooms with two heads. The VIP stateroom and the guest stateroom share a head, while the master has its own private head. The head that’s used for the VIP and guest staterooms can also serve as the boat’s day-head.

Sirena 48
The master stateroom has a berth that’s on centerline and that has walkaround space. Courtesy Sirena Yachts

Master Stateroom

The master stateroom is just abaft amidships, in the part of the yacht that tends to have the least motion (a real benefit for anyone who suffers from seasickness). The berth is on centerline with walkaround space, so nobody will have to crawl over the other person’s legs to access either side. A settee is to starboard for owners who want a space to curl up in total privacy with a good book.

VIP and Guest Stateroom

The VIP stateroom is far forward on the lower deck. Its berth also has walkaround space, a feature that can be surprisingly hard to find on some boats’ secondary staterooms in the Sirena 48’s size range. The guest stateroom, with twin berths, is between the master and the VIP on the starboard side of the yacht. It’s ideal for children or occasional guests, with a smaller overall area than the master or the VIP.

It used to be that if you wanted a truly custom experience out on the water, you had to spend years building a custom superyacht at only the biggest size ranges. Oh, how times have changed. In May, Turkish builder Bering Yachts released images of its first custom yacht smaller than 80 feet. Lemanja, a Bering 76, is just the latest example of all kinds of platforms—small, large and revolutionary—that today’s builders are offering to satisfy pretty much whatever type of adventure owners want to embark on next.

In the case of Lemanja, the owner had a vision of autonomy in the most remote locations, including substantial noise reduction so the yacht would feel like a home for the six people on board. An alternative power source reduces the environmental footprint, according to the yard, which also installed advanced stabilizer systems to add comfort for anyone prone to seasickness.

U-Boat Worx Nautilus

Meanwhile, the folks at U-Boat Worx in the Netherlands are striving to make a dive-capable yacht inspired by Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” The Nautilus is being created in partnership with Officina Armare, which has offices in Germany and Turkey. The vessel has a salon much like those aboard superyachts, with a bar, a flat-screen TV and surround sound for movie nights on board. Only in this case, the bar is adjacent to a sole-to-ceiling circular window that’s more than 13 feet wide for views of the marine life underwater.

Accommodations are for 10 guests in five staterooms. The en suite master’s decor is darker than the rest of the yacht to create the feeling of being deeper beneath the ocean’s surface. Guest staterooms all have windows for underwater views from the berths, and an elevator is part of the yacht’s design to make transit between the decks easier. A treadmill, a stationary bicycle and weights are in the Nautilus gymnasium for anyone who doesn’t want to miss a workout while cruising beneath the sea.

Alternative layouts are also available for anyone who wants to enjoy different types of experiences while exploring the deep.

According to U-Boat Worx, the steel vessel will be able to cruise at 9 knots atop the water and at 4 knots when submerged. Moravia Yachting, which is handling sales, calls the Nautilus the pinnacle of technological development in the yachting and submersible sector. “This is a genuine opportunity for someone to become the first in the world to own and enjoy a craft that so many have dreamed of,” says Moravia operations manager Niel Gow.

For a different kind of exhilaration, Otam Yachts in Italy continues to unveil further-customized versions of the Otam 80HT. The builder is on Hull No. 7, which will have a hull and deck fully laminated in Kevlar, paired with a carbon-fiber superstructure.

“The client is not just an expert owner; he’s also an experienced captain and came to us with a detailed list of technical and aesthetic requests of his own,” says Matteo Belardinelli, Otam’s sales and communication manager.

The lines on Hull No. 7 will remain the same as previous 80HTs, and the power will still be twin 2,600 hp MTUs coupled to Arneson drives, but “almost everything else has been reengineered according to the owner-operator’s own technical specs,” according to Otam.

Yachtbuilding, it’s fair to say, has now become dream-building for all kinds of owners. What kind of adventure will be next?

Plenty has been written about retired (really, this time) NFL quarterback Tom Brady’s passion for boating. He reportedly owned a Wajer 55S before upgrading to a Wajer 77, a sweet reward after earning what’s estimated to be a net worth of at least $300 million.

But when it comes to the really big boats—the megayachts, superyachts and gigayachts—it’s the NFL team owners who have the goods. Sure, there’s an occasional story in the news about an NFL player spending a day on the water, but the people making a real splash on the docks are the ones who own the teams.

Article At-A-Glance

  • NFL players, such as Tom Brady, have good-size boats, but team owners have big yachts.
  • Several NFL team owners have sizable, pedigree European shipyard builds.
  • You’d never know the owners based on the yacht names.
  • The yachts cruise all over the world, including the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

European Shipyards that NFL Owners Choose

Europe has always been seen as the place to buy a pedigree superyacht, and owners of NFL teams naturally gravitate toward the best. They’ve commissioned yachts from Oceanco, Lürssen, Feadship and Royal Hakvoort.

Jerry Jones’ Bravo Eugenia

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones owns Bravo Eugenia, a 357-foot Oceanco that was delivered in late 2018. Forbes reported that, during the pandemic, Jones handled the NFL draft from on board—in a luxurious version of social-distancing. The yacht itself is noteworthy for its hybrid propulsion as well as its multiple helipads, which give Jones the ability to land on board pretty much anywhere in the world.

Shahid Khan’s Kismet

In 2014, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan took delivery of the 312-foot Lürssen Kismet. It’s currently listed for sale on the Moran Yacht & Ship website at an asking price of about $160 million, with what the brokerage house calls a “decadent interior” by Reymond Langton Design. Accommodations are for 16 guests, with quarters for 28 crew. The yacht has a helipad, a spa, a swimming pool and an outdoor fireplace—a rare find aboard any yacht of any size.

American Shipyards that NFL Owners Choose

Some NFL owners skip the European shipyards (and their years-long waiting lists) altogether and go with American builds instead. These yachts are new or refitted after being purchased from previous owners, showing that it’s possible to get exactly what you want in a yacht even if you don’t choose the process of custom construction.

Steve Bisciotti’s Winning Drive

Baltimore Ravens majority owner Steve Bisciotti reportedly also owns Winning Drive, a Westport 130 that left the yard in 2012. This is one of the most popular American-model yachts ever, with the series in build since way back in 2000 and the company still offering new versions today. The 10-guest, seven-crew Westport 130 is also a popular model on the charter market, if anyone wants to book a different hull to get a feel for life on board Bisciotti style.

Stan Kroenke’s Aquila

This billionaire owner of the Los Angeles Rams (and numerous other sports teams) reportedly also owns Aquila, a 280-foot Derecktor that started life on the water in 2010 as Cakewalk—the largest private motoryacht ever built in the United States. The yacht underwent a yearlong refit at Pendennis and is currently available for charter through Burgess at a lowest weekly base rate of $945,000. Guests have full access to the onboard elevator, cinema room, spa and massage areas, and bridge-deck fire pit.

Tom Brady’s Boat

By comparison with these behemoths, Brady’s Wajer 77 seems small—but it’s actually the largest model in the builder’s line. It’s built for speed and silence, with a top speed of 37 knots and extensive use of insulation to dampen onboard noise. Smaller models from Wajer give all kinds of boat owners a chance to sample the kind of fun that Brady is having out on the water.

Wajer 38

The Wajer 38 is the entry-level model in the builder’s lineup, with 45 knots of speed (yes, it can outrun Tom Brady’s boat). The 300-nautical-mile range means this boat is well-suited for weekend getaways, and the fact that the boat is packed with seating and sun pads mean owners can bring plenty of friends along for the ride. Vripack in the Netherlands—also a superyacht designer—handled naval architecture, which explains the upscale feel.

Wajer 55S

This is the model that Tom Brady had before he upgraded to the builder’s larger flagship. The 55S is still in production today. It’s a 38-knot boat with a 400-nautical-mile range and a center-console design that allows great walkaround space for fishing and other water sports. Belowdecks, there’s accommodations for as many as four people, if owners want to spend the night on the hook. For the hull, owners can choose among a wide variety of colors, ranging from more subtle blacks and whites to high-octane yellows and pinks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do more NFL team owners than NFL players own superyachts?

Generally speaking, superyacht owners are billionaires, while even the most successful NFL players tend to be multimillionaires.

Do any NFL team owners have yachts bigger than a football field?

A football field between the goal lines is 100 yards, or 300 feet. That means several NFL team owners have yachts that would be too long to fit inside their own stadiums.

Do NFL team owners keep their yachts near NFL stadiums?

Not usually. Dallas Cowboys owners Jerry Jones’ yacht, for instance, has been spotted everywhere from Vancouver to London.

Do NFL team owners with yachts also have other business interests?

Yes. Shahid Khan, who owns the Jacksonville Jaguars, made his fortune with Flex-N-Gate, which makes bumpers for vehicles. Steve Bisciotti, who owns the Baltimore Ravens, also owns staffing, recruiting and talent-management companies.

Do any NFL stadiums have dockage for yachts?

Not directly at the stadium, but there’s a marina adjacent to Soldier Field, where the Chicago Bears play, and boaters heading to Cleveland Browns games can tie up at the nearby Rock and Dock Marina at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
