The Carver 59 Marquis 5150 is currently listed with Alexander Marine USA for $799,000. The 2007 Markham Edition build has the optional lower helm, re-configured open galley and accommodations to sleep six with a three-stateroom, two-head layout.

The cockpit on 5150 is a great spot to enjoy shaded alfresco dining with its aft bench seat and fixed table, add loose chairs and there’s room for six. Integral steps to port lead to the 59-footer’s flybridge, which has a dinette immediately to starboard, another great spot for shaded alfresco dining. Forward to starboard is an electric grill, ice maker and a refrigerator, while a wet bar is to port, abaft the two-seat upper helm station. The entire area is surrounded by isinglass that can be unzipped to catch ocean breezes.

Pass through the cockpit sliding doors to access the salon, which is set up with a semi-wraparound sofa to starboard and two loose lounge chairs to port, creating a cozy spot for casual conversation and cocktails after daytripping. Forward and two steps up is the galley, set up with an L-shaped countertop to starboard with a sink, a coffee maker, a microwave oven and a dishwasher drawer.

Forward of the galley is the optional lower helm station. This space has additional guest seating with a dinette to starboard, directly next to the helm seat, keeping everyone together underway.

Belowdecks, owners and their guests will find three staterooms. The amidships full-beam (16’6″) master stateroom has a centerline king berth and en suite head. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a centerline queen berth and access to the second head to port. The starboard guest stateroom has single bunk berths making it a perfect spot for the kids.

Power for 5150 is provided by twin 825 hp MTU Series 60 DDEC diesels. The engines have just around 825 hours on them. When Yachting ran a similar Carver 59 Marquis powered with the same engines, we saw a top speed of just about 30 knots.

The swim platform on 5150 doubles as its tender stowage, and it’s worth noting that a Caribe center-console with a 40 hp Honda outboard is included in the purchase.

When it comes to construction, the Carver 59 Marquis has a solid fiberglass hull bottom and foam and balsa coring in the topsides. The superstructure has an internal aluminum grid that bolts to plates in the deck, so the fiberglass laminate doesn’t carry the load, resulting in a strong monocoque structure.

Other notable features on 5150 include a Kohler 23EOZD generator with 1,682 hours, a depth sounder, a radar, three Garmin 16-inch touchscreens, a chart plotter, Garmin autopilot, a GPS, Starlink Internet WiFi system, cockpit speakers and a VHF.

More from the Yachting Archive: Carver 59 Marquis

“Carver wanted to offer a larger yacht to the dedicated clientele who had moved up through the builder’s line. Mike Murawski, Carver’s vice president of sales and marketing, said the company surveyed the market and came to an interesting conclusion: The number of European imports was growing…

… To meet this challenge, Carver approached the Italian design team of Nuvolari-Lenard, which had built an illustrious track record working with companies such as Ferretti and Perini Navi. The team understood American practicality, too, after working with Palmer Johnson to create its Corniche line of yachts. According to Murawski, the builder and designers had an immediate rapport.” – Yachting, August 2003

Where is 5150 located? The yacht is currently lying in San Diego, California.
