Gilman Yachts has listed Optimist, a 2013 Riviera 5000 Sport Yacht, with an asking price of $649,000. The express-style cruiser has a two-stateroom, two head, layout that can sleep seven thanks to a convertible sofa in the lower salon that converts into a Pullman berth forming upper and lower bunks.

One of this yacht’s highlights is the helm-station experience. Yachting has previously reported how well Riviera designed the double-leather-seat helm space on the 5000 Sport Yacht, including its sightlines: “Two forward-facing windows have uncluttered views and are served by decently sized wipers. Add the long side windows and the open after bulkhead, and you have a near-flawless, 360-degree line of sight.” Additionally, there is a retractable sunroof in case the skipper wants to bring breezes and more natural light into the salon. The helm is also set up with a Garmin electronics suite, including multifunction GPS, displays, radar, autopilot and more. There is also joystick driving and a Skyhook vessel-positioning system.

During the sea trial we said, “Coming off of the four-foot swells at 30 knots, my body automatically tightened. I’m getting too damn old for this routine, I thought, preparing to flex with the expected impact. And then there it was: nothing. I felt absolutely nothing. The Riviera 5000 Sport Yacht settled effortlessly, like a piece of cotton falling gently to the floor, into the trough outside of Sydney Harbor.”

Enhancing the driving fun, is the 5000 Sport Yacht’s performance. Twin 600 hp Cummins QSC8.3 diesels are paired to Zeus Pod drives and propel Optimist to a reported 30-knot top hop, which is in line with our previous findings.

This yacht is also about comfort at sea, and to that end the salon layout includes a C-shaped sofa and table to port and the galley to starboard abaft the two-seat helm station. The galley is equipped with Corian countertops, high-gloss cherry cabinets, custom Riviera plates, cups, dishes, glassware, a microwave/convection oven, a dishwasher, stainless-steel refrigerators and freezers, and cruiseworthy provision stowage.

Belowdecks, there is a lower salon, which has the sofa that converts into the Pullman berth, a great addition for larger cruising families. The owners’ stateroom is forward with a centerline queen berth and an en suite head. The amidships VIP stateroom has a queen berth and a single berth.

When it comes to outdoor spaces, the 5000 Sport Yacht teak cockpit has a bench seat aft with a fixed table, just add some loose chairs and there’s alfresco dining for up to six. Forward and to port is an L-shaped sofa for additional cockpit seating. Side decks lead to the foredeck where there is a two-person sun pad, making it a great spot to catch some sun or enjoy some Sundowners with friends. There is access to tender stowage via the transom door. A hydraulic swim platform works in tandem with an onboard launching system to easily store a 10-foot-2-inch tender.

Some other notable features on board include a yacht tender winch, Cummins Engine Management Electronic Displays, automatic trim adjustment, fuel-management display with gph read out and total fuel burn data, a depth sounder, VHF, and an Onan 13.5 KW genset.

From the Archive: Riviera 5000 Sport Yacht

“On the salon level a settee runs most of the length of the port side. You’ll need a few stools to accommodate six people, assuming your staterooms are full up. Otherwise, it will seat four comfortably as is, and flanks the fully equipped galley. Features include one drawer-style refrigerator and one freezer, a microwave, a dishwasher and a two-burner cook-top under the counter.” – Yachting, October 2010

Where is Optimist located? The yacht is currently lying in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Australian yacht builder Riviera has launched its 58 Sports Motor Yacht, the latest model in this six-yacht series, which also includes 46-, 50, 64-, 68- and 72-footers.

The yacht has a three-stateroom, three-head layout, making it a solid fit for extended cruising with family and friends. The staterooms are accessed via a stairway on centerline from the salon. The owners’ stateroom is full-beam with a queen-size berth, en suite head, walk-in closet and a breakfast bar.

In a press release Riviera stated, “The space aft of the master stateroom can be personalised to suit the owners’ needs; perhaps as a laundry, utility room, crew cabin, additional accommodation with a separate bathroom, or even a mini gymnasium.”

The forepeak VIP also has a queen-size berth with walkaround room as well as an en suite head. The third guest stateroom is abaft and to port with twin single berths with bedside tables. The berths slide together with the push of a button for couples. The third stateroom is across the companionway to starboard, serving as the day head.

The efficiency of the belowdecks layout is also reflected in the salon arrangement, creating several social zones.

It starts with the 58 Sports motor Yacht’s U-shaped galley aft, which is penned to easily serve guests in the salon as well as those seated at the shaded al fresco deck and in the cockpit. Open the galley window to create a seamless connection between the inside and outside spaces.

Forward and to port is an L-shaped settee, designed to let guests take in the views underway via nearly 360 degrees of glass. Abaft to starboard is a U-shaped dinette for casual meals. Directly across is the internal stairway that leads to the enclosed flybridge helm station.

The 58 Sports Motor Yacht’s aforementioned al fresco deck, which is protected from the elements via glass quarter panels, is cleverly arranged just a couple of steps up from the cockpit. This perch creates clear views aft to watch the kids swimming or to keep an eye on trolled baits when fishing for dinner. There is U-shaped seating around a high-gloss teak dining table to starboard with a settee to port.

In addition to being a formidable cruising platform, the 58 Sports Motor Yacht’s cockpit can be arranged for angling enthusiasts, diving and water sports fans, entertainment-centric cruisers or a little bit of all of it. A nearly full-beam and optional hydraulic swim platform lets owners launch and retrieve a tender or PWC.

There are two more al fresco entertainment spaces on board the 58 Sports Motor Yacht. The first is on the foredeck, where guests can enjoy an L-shaped lounge as well as seating that converts to a pad, all set around a table for meals on the hook. Just add carbon fiber poles to put up an awning for shade from the midday sun. Owners can also add a davit and stow their tender here.

Riviera 58 SMY lounge

The final al fresco next space is found on the after deck of the all-weather flybridge. Riviera says, “In similar style to the salon below, the flybridge opens and flows out to the aft deck. At anchor, this is a splendid private retreat or boutique entertaining area complete with wrap-around corner lounge, folding timber table, wet bar, refrigerator, sink and solid surface benchtop. To assist the skipper, the aft deck has an additional joystick control station with excellent visibility for precise docking or sport fishing.”

Forward and to port is the helm station with two hand-stitched-leather seats. According to Riviera, “The helm is state-of-the-art, featuring touchscreen navigation and operation technology…” There is also an electric sunroof and side sliding windows that enable fresh breezes.

A large handful of new Riviera models will be on display at this fall’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show as well as the Miami International Boat Show in February. Riviera Yachts

Global requests for Riviera-built boats are the strongest they’ve ever been in the Australian company’s 43-year history—so much so that Riviera recently completed a $10-million five-year expansion so that its craftspeople can build more boats to meet their global consumer demand.

“Our team is constantly working to enhance quality, in everything from developing new models to adding new skills and the latest technology,” says Stephen Milne, Riviera’s brand and communications director. “We now have more than 521,000 square feet of production space under cover, we’ve expanded many of our buildings to accommodate our larger models, as well as innovative spaces like our new high-tech, temperature-controlled Lamination Center.”

Riviera Yachts
Riviera makes a grand entrance with their fleet of innovative SUV and sport yachts. Riviera Yachts

The expansion is what’s making it possible for so many Riviera models to be on display at this fall’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, as well as at the upcoming Miami International Boat Show in February.

Four models in particular—the 46 Sports Motor Yacht, 4600 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition, 585 SUV and 58 Sports Motor Yacht—are the ones to look for at the Riviera stands at the upcoming boat shows.

46 Sports Motor Yacht

The 46 Sports Motor Yacht will be making its boat-show premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which runs from October 25-29. It’s the new entry-level model in the Sports Motor Yacht line, offering amenities similar to the larger boats.

The Riviera design team has created multiple entertaining spaces, a large open flybridge for eight guests, a covered alfresco deck forward of the cockpit, and a window that connects outdoor guests with the indoor galley and salon. There’s also a superb sun lounge on the foredeck and an all-watersports cockpit that doubles in size when the twin transom doors are opened out to the generous boarding platform.

For overnights on the hook, the accommodations deck has three double-berth staterooms and two heads. The master is forward for privacy, with the guest staterooms at amidships.

Owners have a choice of powerplants in the engine room. Standard power is twin 600 hp Volvo Penta D8-IPS800s. Owners also can choose twin 725 hp Volvo Penta D11 IPS950s. In either configuration, the yacht comes equipped with an 11 kW Onan generator with the option of a 13.5 kW generator.

4600 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition

The 4600 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition, powered by D8 IPS800s, features premium fabrics, high-gloss walnut cabinetry, and plush carpets in the staterooms. The hardtop and targa arch are finished in Riviera Platinum, along with electronics arrays, air vents, and boot tops rendered in a statement-black finish.

This is a three-stateroom yacht whose master spans the full beam with large hull windows for exceptional natural light, as well as opening portholes for fresh air. The master’s oversize queen berth is on centerline, allowing for walkaround access, with an en suite head to starboard.

Amenities include a hydraulic swim platform for tender launching as well as guest water access; a cockpit with lounge seating, a table, a barbecue and a summer galley; foredeck sun pads with adjustable headrests; and a salon with a sliding glass door and awning window, as well as indoor dining.

The twin 600 hp Volvo Penta D8-IPS800s provide more than 30 knots of speed on the pins—and it’s a quiet ride, thanks to noise-dampening techniques that Riviera uses during the boat’s construction.

Riviera Yachts
With three staterooms and three heads, this sports-friendly bluewater performance yacht gives you options. Riviera Yachts

585 SUV

The Riviera 585 SUV will make its US debut at this fall’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This model is designed with everything Riviera has learned during a decade of building more than 220 SUV yachts from 39 to 64 feet long.

Aboard the Riviera 585 SUV, boaters have a combination of bluewater performance, sports-friendly amenities and single-level living.

Accommodations are for six guests in three staterooms with three heads. There’s also a space abaft the full-beam amidships master that can be used as a utility room, a laundry room, crew quarters or another stateroom.

Outdoors, the cockpit connects to a semi-enclosed alfresco deck that’s ideal for entertaining. There’s a barbecue here, along with a refrigerator, ice maker, sink and stowage. For easier docking maneuvers, an IPS joystick is hidden in the starboard corner (it can be placed to port if that’s what owners prefer). Plush lounges and dining spaces are nearby, with plenty of drink holders for everybody’s favorite chilled beverages.

A whole other relaxation zone is on the foredeck, which has a lounge for as many as eight people, as well as a foldout sun pad, removable table, and stereo speakers linked to the salon’s entertainment system.

Power on the Riviera 585 SUV is twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS1200s, or owners can go with twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS1350s as an option.

58 Sports Motor Yacht

The Riviera 58 Sports Motor Yacht will make its debut in America at the 2024 Miami International Boat Show in February, becoming the sixth model in the Australian builder’s range of Sports Motor Yachts.

Key features aboard all Riviera Sports Motor Yachts include an all-watersports cockpit, walkaround side decks, a foredeck lounge and entertaining zone, an all-weather alfresco deck for entertaining, and a spacious salon with an internal staircase that leads to a fully enclosed, air-conditioned flybridge.

On the 58 Sports Motor Yacht, there are three staterooms and three heads. The master is a full-beam setup with a walk-in closet, as well as an optional breakfast bar and fridge. Also on the accommodations deck is a utility room or a crew cabin (depending on which option owners prefer). As a utility room, the space is ideal for passing down diving and fishing gear from the cockpit via the engine room. Another option for the space is a laundry with a separate washer and dryer.

Be sure to catch the US premieres of Riviera’s newest models at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October 2023 and the Miami International Boat Show February 2024. Riviera Yachts

The flybridge on the 58 Sports Motor Yacht feels like a second salon, thanks to its sizing and commanding views of the water. There’s a twin captain’s-chair helm to port, with a forward lounge opposite. There is a further aft lounge, drawer fridge for refreshments, as well as a slide-out double berth for guests or crew on overnight passages. Owners can add a winged sports pack arch to the flybridge hardtop, to carry radar and communications domes, as well as an optional trickle-charge solar panel connected to the 12-volt battery system.

In the engine room, the 58 Sports Motor Yacht has twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS1350s.

A Luxurious Explorer: Riviera’s 78 Motor Yacht https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/riviera-78-reviewed/ Fri, 25 Aug 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=60792 The 29-knot Riviera 78 Motor Yacht offers luxe living on the inside and bluewater cruising on the outside.

Riviera 78
The foredeck lounge is kept dry, thanks to 6-plus feet of freeboard forward. Courtesy Riviera

The Riviera Yachts 78 Motor Yacht’s sense of “wow” starts with a wave-battling, sharp bow with more than 6 feet of freeboard forward that also has a gentle flare. Then, there are the generously sized hull windows and gentle sheerline that splits to offer high deck railings. The sizable yacht’s main deck includes a fully covered after section, a salon that rivals fine apartments, and a bow lounge typically found on larger yachts. Topping it off is a flybridge deck with an extended aft terrace that offers great vistas or a private hideout.

In association with superyacht designer Luca Vallebona and the Riviera Design Group, the Australian builder set out to create more voluminous spaces, maximize stowage, maintain excellent lines of sight and wrap it all in a functional layout. Goals achieved.

Take the salon: A portside sofa complements the opposing side’s L-shaped sofa (with oh-so-soft pillows) and oversized ottoman while maintaining walking space. One way Riviera creates floor space is by tucking away items that are not always used. Riviera designed a table to hide within the portside sofa, so, after the cushions are moved, the table flips up and out from its base, becoming a dining table for six to eight guests. Additionally, the 55-inch flat-screen TV is not mounted in a credenza, but instead drops from overhead. When fully extended, it’s in line with the lower staircase’s railing, so it doesn’t impede the walking areas. The salon has 6-foot-7-inch headroom and side windows measuring more than 3 feet in height, enhancing the sense of space while offering ocean views and letting in natural light.

Riviera 78 stateroom

The galley is aft with an overhead cabinet along the starboard window, nestled next to the after corner fridge/freezer. There are clear sightlines from the aft deck through the salon, thanks to the absence of bulkheads. Rounding out the cooking amenities are an electric cooktop, options for hot or cold sparkling water at the sink, two ovens, a dishwasher, several fridges and a freezer compartment.

A drop-down electrical window aft, along with the sliding access door, seamlessly connects the salon, galley and aft deck.

The aft deck—16 by 13 by 7 feet—includes a transom sofa with an aft privacy screen, a perfect setup for cozying up with a good book. There is also a starboard-side, L-shaped settee with a walnut dining table. A portside credenza includes a wet bar, a grill, a lower fridge, an ice maker, Corian countertops and stowage.

Riviera 78 helm
The helm has an extended platform that keeps the throttles within arm’s reach. Courtesy Riviera

Dual staircases lead down to the hydraulic swim platform, which not only lowers into the water for handling water toys and swimming, but also rises to clear the aft wash when running. It serves as an additional alfresco social space as well.

Up top, the enclosed flybridge is home to the yacht’s only helm station. This space is also a mini salon, another great social area. Guests can sink into the ultra-soft sofa across from the 44-inch TV. Add in the fresh breeze by opening the sunroof, aft door and side windows. Headroom here is an equally impressive 6 feet, 7 inches. An open-flybridge version is available.

The helm is laid out with four 24-inch Garmin multifunction displays, so the operator can keep eyes on all the vital data, navigation charts, radar, sonar, cameras and more at a glance. With so much glass around the flybridge, visibility is unobstructed in all directions.

Riviera 78 interior

Step through the aft door to the flybridge terrace for more alfresco relaxation space. Eat, drink and be merry at the portside corner wet bar, which has two stools (with latches underneath, preventing tipping when in transit). A U-shaped dining area here can be used as lounge seating as well. A half-awning shields some of the space from the elements. Aft space is sufficient for additional lounge chairs. An on-deck day head reduces the need to go below.

Belowdecks, the 78 Motor Yacht is geared for the cruising enthusiast’s family. There are four staterooms and three heads. Down the forward staircase from the salon, an atrium landing provides access to all the staterooms. The full-beam master is amidships with a lounge seat, as well as a head with a shower stall and a separate toilet space. There’s also a full-size office desk that brings new meaning to the phrase “remote working.” Two double-bunk staterooms are forward, with the VIP in the forepeak.

The 78 Motor Yacht is customizable, and Riviera is open to owner requests. Want to replace the pantry with another fridge? No problem. Change the layout of the salon? Sure.

Riviera 78
Powered with optional 2,000 hp MAN diesels, the 78 that we got aboard saw a top hop of 29 knots. Courtesy Riviera

I found that responsive handling comes standard. The 78 Motor Yacht is a graceful craft that reacts well to the single-lever controls, as well as to wheel input. Going hard over on the wheel doesn’t mean it’s a white-knuckle ride. There’s a gentle lean into the turns and an easy rise when hitting the wakes. In other words, this is an easy yacht for an owner-operator or a light crew.

Speaking with Chris McCafferty, international sales director at Riviera Australia, I learned that this yacht was ideal for its owner’s needs—which mirror a lot of owners’ needs in the global cruising community. “For this owner, we were able to check off all the boxes they had,” he said. Room for a cruising family? Check. A bluewater hull form and robust build? Check. Luxurious and homelike amenities? Check. Long range for extended cruising itineraries? Check. Inside and outside living? Check.

It appears that the Riviera 78 Motor Yacht does indeed check a lot of boxes. It makes me wonder: What will they think of next?

Power Up

The Riviera 78 Motor Yacht’s engine options include V-12 MAN diesels in 1,500, 1,800 or 2,000 hp. The yacht I got aboard had the 2000s, providing a 21.1-knot cruise while burning 126 gallons per hour at 1,800 rpm, equating to a 450-nautical-mile range. At wide-open throttle, the yacht hit 29 knots at 2,200 rpm at a cost of 203 gph, yielding a range of 385 nm. Pull back the throttles to 10 knots for a 43 gph burn and a 2,500 nm range.

Form and Function

Creating multifunction spaces is a focal point for Riviera. For example, the garage door opens to a large stowage room for water toys, rods and secured containers. A staircase (not a ladder) ensures safe footing into the well. When open, the garage door houses a rain-shower head and lighting to illuminate the platform and area aft.

Bow Lounge

Smart design allows for a foredeck oasis with a forward-facing, U-shaped settee, a wooden table, side lounge seats and access to the foredeck gear.

At the Con

Sitting in the Stidd helm seat and taking in the dash feels like commanding a spaceship. There are touchscreens for most all functions, and buttons for on/off controls. On the right of the seat is an extended platform that houses the throttles, joystick, autopilot and chart-plotter controllers.

Bayliss 67 Overtime: Custom Fishing Machine

Bayliss Boats in North Carolina started construction on Overtime in August 2020. The yacht was completed in November 2022, two months ahead of schedule. Overtime has standard equipment, such as a Seakeeper stabilizer, Furuno’s Omni sonar and Northern Lights generators, while custom features include what Bayliss calls “an elaborate live well circulating system” that the owner plans to use for a substantial fishing program based out of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Inside, Overtime is the second Bayliss constructed with a walnut interior, which the yard calls “sleek and bold.” There’s a three-stateroom, two-head layout for longer itineraries, and the tackle room is designed like a showroom, with walnut, granite and a cork wall.

Riviera 46 Sports Motor Yacht: Made For Family Fun

The Riviera 46 Sports Motor Yacht is an owner-operator-friendly vessel with hand-laid fiberglass construction, notable performance, and fun and function to spare. These yachts are intended to be used for family cruising as well as adventurous getaways, with a cockpit that’s set up for entertaining, with amenities such as an electric grill, a wet bar, a sink and stowage. Just forward is a covered alfresco deck that extends the interior salon’s living space into the outdoors. Accommodations include three staterooms and two heads for comfortable family voyages, with air conditioning throughout.  There are two power options for the 46 Sport Motor Yacht—both from Volvo Penta: a twin 600 hp IPS800 or 725 hp IPS950 diesel.

Invictus TT420
Invictus Yachts says the TT420 has enough seating capacity for 14 people to head out on the water. Courtesy Invictus Yachts

Invictus TT420: Christian Grande Design

The Invictus TT420 made its debut in January in Europe, joining what is now a four-boat TT model range from the Italian builder. The boat’s lines are based on its bigger sibling, the TT460, with an integral glass windshield. Note the high bulwarks all around for safety on board, as well as the folding tables amidships that can convert into a relaxation area protected by the hardtop. Owners can opt for a hydraulic device aft to help launch the tender, a feature not commonly found aboard boats in this size range. Power is twin 440 hp Volvo Penta D6 engines in a sterndrive configuration. Look for the Invictus TT420 to become available in a new color, vogue white, which will also be available on the TT460 going forward.

Hylas M49

Hylas M49: Ready To Roam

Hylas Yachts, long known for its Taiwanese-built sailboats, now has three powerboats among its offerings. The M49, shown here, joins the M44 and the M58 in the power lineup. The M49’s design is by New Zealand’s Salthouse, whose background is in Down East vessels with a commercial-fishing and offshore-angling heritage. Hylas says the helm station has no blind spots from stem to stern. Amenities for onboard entertaining include a refrigerator, a barbecue and a dinette. Accommodations include two staterooms and two heads, with an optional washing machine for couples or families that expect to be on board for longer cruising itineraries. Power is a pair of 370 hp Yanmars, and the boat has a fuel capacity just shy of 240 gallons.

VisionF 60
The VisionF 60 will be built of GRP, unlike its larger sistership, which is constructed in aluminum. Courtesy VisionF Yachts

VisionF 60: Coming In Spring 2024

Turkish builder VisionF Yachts is adding a VisionF 60 power catamaran to its offerings, which also include the VisionF 80. The yard is promising a wealth of options for the 60’s layout, with the galley on the main deck or in one of the hulls, and with three or four staterooms for overnight accommodations. One of the staterooms can be outfitted as a gym, and crew quarters can be included at the stern or the bow. Solar panels can be added to the roof for more eco-friendly cruising. Note the platform that’s aft between the hulls; it’s a high-low design that can be used for swimming or to raise the tender out of the water. Power for the mothership will be a pair of 360 hp Volvo Penta IPS600s, with the builder projecting a top speed of 21 knots.

Azimut S7
The Azimut S7 pairs sporty performance with fuel consumption that’s reportedly 20 to 30 percent lower than similar boats. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

Azimut S7: Triple Pod Propulsion

Azimut’s S7 is designed for lower fuel consumption than competing models. To help make that possible, the Italian builder used carbon fiber for  construction on quite a bit of the upper part of the yacht. The idea was to preserve the S7’s center of gravity (and, thus, guest comfort on board) while reducing the vessel’s overall weight. The result, according to Azimut, is a 30 percent reduction in weight as well as a 15 percent reduction in typical roll momentum. The S7’s layout includes four staterooms, thanks to extra interior volume that the use of space-saving IPS engines affords. There’s also a cabin for a crew member. Riviera 465 SUV
The Riviera 465 SUV is the latest addition to the SUV line. Riviera Yachts

Riviera Yachts’ SUV Collection is purposefully designed to combine the alfresco single-level entertainment ease of the Australian builder’s award-winning Sports Yacht range with the offshore performance and rugged livability of its Sports Motor Yacht range. The latest addition to the lineup of six models that spans the 395 SUV to the 645 SUV, the new 465 SUV is not only the seventh member of the popular series, but it’s also the most technologically advanced.

Designed by the Riviera in-house design team in collaboration with 4D Designs, the 465 SUV nestles in between the 445 SUV and the 505 SUV, but it sports some distinctive characteristics that makes this sleek, low-profile 47-footer much more than just another size option.

Introduced to the world at the 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, followed by its US debut at the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Riviera’s 465 SUV boasts the new hull design proven on the next generation 505 and 645 SUV models that lends a sleek, low-profile look with a reverse sheer and distinctive bow flare hinting at the brand’s signature high-performance characteristics. The contemporary styling is set off by an extended hardtop with subtle curves and an angular upward rise aft, and purposeful window lines add movement and depth to the profile.

Riviera 465 SUV

The hand-laid FRP deep-V hull, has foam filled compartments where possible for durability as well as sound and vibration attenuation. Together with the lightweight cored deck and topsides, these are all important design and construction considerations for a speedster that can achieve over 32 knots at full throttle. Fitted with twin D8 Volvo IPS 800 engines of 600 hp each, the 465 SUV is the first Riviera model to offer the upgraded Volvo Penta joystick control system for near-effortless maneuvering and docking.

A gracious swim platform extends the vessel’s overall length to nearly 48 feet, and features dual flush-opening transom doors and optional side rails to allow the space to comfortably operate as a watersports launch pad or cockpit area for fishing and bait prep. An in-floor hatch accesses the optional kill tanks or watersports gear lockers. A barbecue, ice maker, sink and top-loading cockpit fridge are conveniently positioned here.

Single-level living is a defining element of the SUV series, and the new 465 SUV encapsulates this aspect perfectly. Extending the sociability between the indoor salon and helm area all the way aft to the cockpit, the space that will undoubtedly see the most use on board the 465 SUV is the inviting alfresco mezzanine. Shaded by the hardtop overhang, protected by fixed side glass privacy panels and with additional Isinglass protection and air conditioning optional, this space features a settee with dinette to port and a single lounge to starboard that converts to a daybed—ideal for an afternoon snooze or as an alfresco berth for guests longing to sleep under a blanket of stars. A large awning window folds up to integrate the galley with this space, which, when opened alongside the central sliding glass door, increases the interior salon’s living area exponentially. Controls for the boat’s Fusion audio system are conveniently located internally and a second joystick control is situated externally while a large hatch in the mezzanine floor allows excellent access to the engine room housing the optional Seakeeper 6 gyrostabilizer.

Two sliding electric sunroofs further augment the open-air feel of the 465 SUV’s main deck, where dining is accommodated either at the folding dinette on the mezzanine or at the large folding interior dining table with a C-shaped settee that seats up to six. Wide, opening side windows provide panoramic views to the spacious salon, which is largely comprised of the impressive and well-equipped chef’s galley to starboard. A 43-inch pop-up television is hidden in the dash forward to port, opposite of which the helm station is equipped with a navigation and monitoring console housing two 12-inch Garmin Glass Cockpit multifunction displays, an optional CZone control panel that gives easy access to all modes, systems and equipment, and an adjustable sports wheel and joystick controls. Twin leather helm seats comfortably seat the captain, who will enjoy the visibility through the curved windshield that looks out beyond the foredeck with its twin sun pads with adjustable headrests.

Designed for ease of owner operation, the 465 SUV features a three-stateroom layout below deck, with a walkaround queen-berth master with en suite forward and the option of mirrored twins or a double and twin configuration amidships. The headroom on this level and throughout is impressive, and premium fabrics, designer furnishings, high-gloss woodworking and sumptuous carpeting is specified as standard. Hatches in the foredeck bring additional light into the master stateroom as well as the bathrooms, the second of which is shared by the central cabins and also serves as a day head. A combo washer/dryer unit is conveniently fitted into the stairwell.

Riviera’s new 465 SUV is not only fitted with the latest in navigation and propulsion technology, but it also is thoughtfully configured for ease of cruising and entertainment in a package comfortably managed by owner/operators. Retaining the rugged Australian DNA that defines the 42-year-old performance-boat builder, this boat will ideally serve the yachtsman looking to add a sporty adventure boat with a long range for exploration to his fleet, as well as the young family moving up in size to a more substantial yacht offering greater space and onboard livability.

Riviera 465 SUV: Expanding the SUV Line

The Riviera 465 SUV is a new-for-2022 model that should appeal to cruisers, anglers and watersports enthusiasts alike. The boat brings Riviera’s SUV line to seven models, starting with the 395 and going up to the 645. The Australian builder worked with 4D Designs to create the 465 SUV, which has three staterooms, two heads and a covered outdoor deck that expands the living space in the salon. The hardtop overhang has a pair of electric sliding sunroofs for even more fresh air on board. The galley is aft and to starboard, with the helm immediately forward of it. Twin 12-inch Garmin Glass Cockpit displays and CZone digital switching are here, along with joystick control for the boat. Siren Marine remote monitoring is also available.

Extra Yachts is part of the Palumbo Superyachts family of brands, which also includes ISA Yachts, Columbus Yachts and Mondo Marine. The Extra brand, known for motoryachts, is now expanding into power catamarans with its first model of that type: the all-aluminum X30 Villa. Interior and exterior design are by the Dutch studio Phathom. The Extra X30 Villa is built with a hybrid propulsion system that reduces harmful emissions and allows for quiet electric-power cruising. Glass-impregnated solar panels are built in to help reduce the need for fuel use, and the interior is constructed with sustainable materials such as repurposed fibers, alternative leathers and reclaimed woods.

Wally, long known for sailboats and original styling, has created a new wallywind range for owners who want to combine long-distance cruising with performance sailing. The first hull of the wallywind110, with naval architecture by judel/vrolijk & co, is scheduled to launch in May 2024. “The boat is ideal for an experienced sailor—maybe someone who has had boats in the 60- to 80-foot range and is now willing to make the jump to the 100-foot size range to get the extra comforts,” says Wally Managing Director Stefano de Vivo. Owners can choose among three keel types: fixed, telescopic or high-tech lifting. Features include Wally’s underwater anchoring system and Magic Trim hydraulic system for the main and jib sheets.

Made entirely of aluminum, the custom build was created in collaboration with Omega Architects, which conceived the external lines, and Massari Design, which was responsible for the outdoor guest areas and interiors. Ciao has four decks and accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms, including a main-deck master. The near-vertical bow gives the yacht a sporty look, while full-height tinted glazing on the main and upper decks provides guests with uninterrupted views of the sea. Ciao has alfresco dining on the upper deck and versatile lounge areas for guest relaxation on the sun deck and main deck.

Belowdecks are four staterooms, all with en suite heads, including a full-beam master amidships, a forepeak VIP as well as twin guest staterooms. There are three twin-diesel-engine options from MAN, ranging in horsepower from 1,400 to 1,800. Depending on engine selection, the Sirena 78’s top speed runs from 23 to 27 knots. Where performance and design meet – the Riviera 78 Motor Yacht. Riviera Yachts

When it comes to boatbuilding, a design that appeals to a global market of experienced boaters is difficult to achieve. Interior volume compromises speed, performance hulls compromise interior accommodations, forward-positioned guest areas can compromise operation, and the list goes on. Add to this the preferences of experienced boaters in the varied cruising regions around the world, and it’s easy to understand why most midsize yacht models are targeted to one single audience at a time.

Rivera Yachts’ new flagship 78 Motor Yacht aims to shift this paradigm.

For 42 years, Australian production boatbuilder Riviera Yachts has designed, engineered and crafted solid fiberglass performance boats across a variety of models that has evolved to comprise the Sports Motor Yacht, SUV, Open and Enclosed Flybridge, Sport Yacht and Belize models ranging from 39 to 72 feet.

Riviera 78
Australian boatbuilder Riviera debuted their latest model at FLIBS 2022. Riviera Yachts

Making its American debut at the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the new 78 Motor Yacht heralds the dawn of a new era for the builder. Created in collaboration with World Superyacht Award-winning yacht designer Luca Vallebona, the new 78 marries the builder’s performance-oriented heritage and engineering excellence with the design and layout befitting a European superyacht.

Drawing on the years of experience and feedback from nearly 6,000 experienced owners, Riviera collaborated with the Italian designer to create a flexible design that would accommodate a variety of layouts suited to the equally diverse lifestyles of its global clientele.

The World is Your Riviera

Customization options abound aboard the new Rivera 78, and they extend well beyond the selection of cushion color or flooring material—although these options are indeed part of the design process, which can be guided by Riviera’s in-house design team.

Riviera 78
Entertain how you want with multiple entertainment configurations.

First, the foredeck area can incorporate multiple configurations for entertainment, as well as an option to stow the tender or personal watercraft with the davit. Crew quarters can be implemented aft of the engine room in a space that can alternatively serve as a laundry or utility room for owner-operators, and the interior layout can be arranged to suit an owner’s preference.

Balance Within

Sporting the sleek lines that portray the signature Riviera look, the 78 is marked by large windows on all three decks, lending a contemporary feel to the iconic style. An expansive boarding platform integrates a hydraulic swim platform into steps that can be raised or lowered to meet the level of the boarding surface. Wing doors to port and starboard on the aft deck offer additional access when boarding from a raised fixed jetty. A spacious watersports garage on this level comfortably houses all manner of gear and water toys as specified by the owner. It also offers a freshwater-mixer shower and a built-in air compressor for inflatables.

Riviera 78
The Riviera 78 Motor Yacht is a practical, bluewater, midsize yacht. Riviera Yachts

Taking advantage of Riviera’s bluewater boating DNA, the 78 Motor Yacht offers one of the more practical and user-friendly aft decks found on a midsize yacht. This space is equipped with a large settee aft, a wet bar with refrigeration, ice maker and double barbecue station, and a television. A folding teak table seats eight with a fixed settee and free-standing chairs. At the touch of a button, the main salon—with its galley-aft layout—can be integrated with the aft deck via opening the electric salon door and electric high-low galley window. When open, the wet bar—with its optional swing-out stools—becomes an extension of the galley, and the entire space becomes a large indoor-outdoor entertainment area that can enjoy the yacht’s high-end sound system. This space can also be designed to quickly enclose for inclement weather and be air-conditioned if desired.

Dining is an important element of the yachting experience, and the 78’s aft-positioned galley is fully equipped with premium appliances, dual full-size refrigerators with freezer drawers, twin Miele combination ovens and a Miele four-element induction cooktop. This inspired space also features a one-and-a-half basin sink with an incinerator and an integrated Zip system that delivers soda and hot, cold and boiling water. A dishwasher, range hood, ample storage and solid-surface bench tops round out a space that will be the envy of all yacht chefs.

Configured and outfitted with premium furniture to the owner’s preference, the main salon is situated forward of the galley, highlighted by the yacht’s large tinted windows with electric blinds, which provide a theater atmosphere for evening movie premieres. The space within the yacht’s 19-foot-8-inch beam can feature an L-shaped lounge with an ottoman, as well as a dining area with a convertible dining table. A wet bar with a fridge, wine cooler and sink is situated forward to port. Alternatively, the interior dining space can be configured as a large lounge and cinema area with a fold-down television assisted by the superior sound system. A door to starboard provides access to the wide side decks leading to the foredeck entertainment area.

Riviera 78
The full beam master stateroom on the 78 Motor Yacht makes it that much more luxurious. Riviera Yachts

Riviera’s 78 Motor Yacht comfortably sleeps eight in four staterooms, with the lower-deck accommodations accessed via a curved stairwell forward of the salon. Situated amidships, the full-beam master stateroom features a high-low electric king bed, a large walk-in wardrobe and a spacious en suite. Among the luxury amenities, each stateroom is highlighted by premium carpeting, reverse-cycle air conditioning and a high-end theater system, while the large windows with opening portholes bring plentiful natural light into these spaces. Forward, the VIP with its own en suite is nestled in the bow, while a convertible twin to port shares an entry to the en suite/day head. The cabin to starboard offers two adult-size Pullman beds for a truly flexible layout.

Balance Without

Riviera 78
Luxurious features abound on the 78 Motor Yacht like this foredeck settee. Riviera Yachts

The exterior spaces of the 78 are equally noteworthy. Maximizing the space afforded by the often-overlooked foredeck area, the 78 Motor Yacht offers a variety of options for this space as well. The yacht’s wide side decks feature raised coamings that illuminate at night for a serene and luxurious feel and lead forward to the foredeck area with its flexible configurations. This space can be fitted with a U-shaped settee or a large sun bed, while a dedicated sound system and sunshades accommodate relaxation amid a panoramic view. Long-range cruisers might prefer to incorporate a hydraulic davit and stow the tender or personal watercraft in this space.

Entertainment on the Fly

Designed for entertaining, the 78 Motor Yacht offers a fully enclosed, air-conditioned space with an L-shaped lounge and slide-out bed, television, high-end sound system, and a cabinet with a wet bar and wine fridge. An opening sunroof and electric side windows bring the alfresco element to this space.

Riviera 78

The flybridge design features sliding doors that extend the wheelhouse, with its triple helm chairs, curved tempered-glass windshield, and ultramodern command console on an alfresco aft deck fitted with a U-shaped lounge and high-low table that can lower to create a daybed. An optional day head is conveniently situated to starboard, while a wet bar with bar stools to port is equipped with a fridge and ice maker.

Performance is Inherited

While the new 78 has a luxurious and contemporary European sensibility to its guest spaces, one must not forget the rugged coastal Australian DNA inherent in the Riviera brand, and performance and seakeeping are integral elements of the build. Twin MAN V-12 engines offered at 1,550, 1,800 or 2,000 hp propel the shaft-drive 78 Motor Yacht to an impressive max speed up to 34 knots, while a comfortable 10-knot cruise affords a 1,000 nm range. Aft docking stations control the Twin Disc hydraulic thrusters, and next-generation CZone digital switching interfaces with an iPad to offer convenient monitoring and control.

Australia-based Riviera adds to its SUV line with a new midsize model: the 465 SUV. It joins six other boats ranging from 43 feet length overall to 69 feet length overall.

The 465 SUV is made for entertaining. The boarding platform can be converted into a watersports area, and the twin transom doors fold out to connect the platform with the cockpit. The cockpit is equipped with a portside wet bar that includes an electric barbecue, a sink and stowage; to starboard, there’s a top-loading freezer and an ice maker. The portside coaming has joystick control for easier docking.

Two steps up from the cockpit is the 465 SUV’s alfresco deck, which is shaded by the hardtop overhang with a pair of electrically activated sunroofs. There’s seating for at least two on each side. The portside seating has a folding dinette with drink holders; beneath the seating is an insulated icebox. As for the starboard-side seating, it can convert to a daybed. Two additional sun pads with adjustable headrests can be found on the foredeck.

The salon is accessed via a portside sliding glass door from the alfresco deck. To starboard is a window that connects to the in-salon, U-shaped galley. Appliances here include a dual-element electric cooktop and a combination microwave with a grill. There’s also a stainless-steel stink, a 5.3-cubic-foot refrigerator and a 1.7-cubic-foot freezer.

The helm station is forward and to starboard, with twin leather seats. It’s equipped with a tilt-adjustable wheel, a joystick, two 12-inch Garmin Glass Cockpit multifunction displays and a CZone digital-switching control panel.

Access belowdecks is via stairs on centerline. The master stateroom is in the forepeak, with a queen berth, full-height locker, en suite head with separate shower stall and vanity, and full-length windows. Two twin-berth guest staterooms are amidships, and owners can opt for a double berth in the portside stateroom. The washer-dryer combo is located under the stairs.
